Most interesting observation but you may need to rule out first if the dark smudges are caused by tire marks from the tugboats.
I can't rule that out yet. Once more photos are accumulated it might be possible to make a more definite statement.

It was triggered by the similarity with the wet exhaust for the forward diesel prime movers on the French Aquitaine class FREMM frigate. If you don't know where to look it's easy to miss the wet exhausts:

When operational, they are unmistakable. I haven't seen anything like this yet in the 055 photos thusfar.

We will keep an eye out for any photo should the Type 055 will blow out smoke on one of its low holes like the FREMM in the last picture.
