The US can't even afford a limited nuclear exchange hence why they were afraid to take on North Korea when they just had one nuke. Just look at how disastrous handling COVID-19 is for the US. The US claims to have a more developed economy. That also means how some major disaster like a city getting nuke will ripple across the US beyond just what the explosion itself will do. All for what? Did China start a war? No, all because China isn't bending the knee to the US. The US has to resort to nuclear terrorism to get what they want.
There are many forms of brief nuclear exchange.. just like in biowar cough cough cough, I could see the US going for plausible denialability... CIA arms terrorists with dirtybomb to blow up a major Chinese city or say collapse the 3GD... now how will China response to this sort of scenario in which the yeild is that of small tac nuke but attribution is not certain or at least not obvious to the world or public? (see Beirut port explosion)

Who's willing to nuke China for the US? Another country? Some country is hiding these terrorists. It would be quite obvious who would be behind it when the US would have to threaten China with nukes to stop China from hunting down those that did it because that would be the bargain that they would get protected to do it. It would be pointless then getting someone else to do it because the finger points back to the US. Is the US going to cry for their human rights? If it's within like pinning it on Uighurs and China will roll through Xinjiang with tanks executing any suspected terrorist. Not as easy as you think. People are not going to sacrifice themselves for the US.
I should have put "terrorists" in qoutes... Im talking about CIA spy/sleeper cell agents that denotes a dirty bomb in China... American gov would of course disawov all... unlike an ICBM its gonna be harder to prove attribution plus at the yield of a small tac, China cannot exactly shoot back with a DF41

This ain't the movies. Where would they get the nukes? Chinese traitors? Where would they get the fissile materials? They steal it from a Chinese nuclear lab? Easier said that done. That's why the US doesn't want China having fintech and digital currency or camera surveillance on every corner. These people will be traced and then where they got the money will be traced. Conspiracies are not easy to hide.
You think the US disavowing is going to be accepted? If China thinks the US did it, nuclear tensions just shot up. You think the US will risk thinking that denying it is enough to stop an angry China?
You are assuming that US hasnt already planted these in hidden strategic locations deep inside China along with the sleeper cells... CIA could have bought these into China decades ago when China didnt have the technology to scan/monitor and just wait it out until the right moment...
See how much mayhem the Boston bombers caused and that was just a homemade pressure cooker device...
Imagine if US blackops manage to get a small nuke or dirty bomb to go off in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen etc...or the Three Gorges Dam etc and by that I mean damage to China finance markets, status as stable supply chain country, etc etc
This is the next card to play, Im saying Atlantic report is hinting at this limited nuke exchange etc
