Hong-Kong Protests

Sorta learnt early on to keep my mouth shut, especially when my opinion tends to be unpopular. So I was somewhat surprised to find out the past year or so how many people actually shared my perspective and disdain for the state of affairs. Makes me sound somewhat snobbish, but I guess I went to one of the "top tier" schools where my classmates tend to come from families that are major figures in government, business, the justice system... Basically social elites that decided to stay after the Handover. I guess that sort of family upbringing comes with a respect for the Motherland and a better understanding/insight of the CCP's plans for Hong Kong.

Our school actually does the whole flag raising ceremony shebang and actually placed somewhat of an emphasis (still not enough imho) on national education, and we did have a language policy that states that we are encouraged to communicate in either English or Mandarin outside of the classroom on school grounds. When the demonstrations broke out and some students started protesting on campus, our alumni association was one of the first that wrote a letter both to the current student body as well as to the general public condemning the acts of the students. I used to tell my folks I'm terrified for when my generation comes into power, but with how things have been unfolding since the signing of the NSL I suppose my generation isn't completely fxxked, and there might still be hope for Hong Kong after all.

I used to tolerate the quirky arrogance and sense of entitlements among English-speaking Hong Kong Chinese just because they treated me alright being a Chinese American and at a higher position than most all of them. Nonetheless, I also personally observed some have shown their disdain for the less-fortunate Cantonese and Chinese-speaking HongKonger. I attributed this to their elitist attitude in an English-centric business-world and being overly materialistic. However, The past year has been an eye-opener as their elitist status erode bringing forth a much more truthful and uglier glimpse of their character. I am now being more careful and critical during any of our hiring process and with any dealings with them.

If you were a mainland employer, would you hire HK youth?

why not? only small percentage of HK youth are brainwashed and most of them are the losers anyway who couldn't compete and have too much time doing stupid things. I believe the majority of HK youth are sensible and logical and some are extremely good

You’ve described what I call the “international school” faction. While I attended local school where Cantonese was the predominant dialect of communication despite the school’s language policy, I got to mingle with many international school kids through my family’s expat friends. What I’d often find is that these international school kids see their mastery of the English language as a sign that they’re more “enlightened” and have more of a “worldly view” as compared to other kids that attended local school - the Gordon Chang types that self-loathe their Oriental roots and bought hard on the Obama change message in 2008. With English being my first language, quite frankly I shared that sort of elitist sentiment until my mid-teenage years when I really started embracing my Chinese heritage.

Long story short, my dad (an executive for an investment company) absolutely shares your views when it comes to hiring and promotions. He’s said the anti-CCP types have fat all chance of getting hired (at least in a high skill/paying job), especially in this day and age of social media alongside the average millennial’s lack of ability to not post dumb shxt on social media. I often scroll through my Facebook feed thinking how many of my “friends” have practically committed career suicide with their dumb posts as they get suckered into the West’s lies. It’s actually hilarious seeing them currently in the midst of frantic disassociation with old posts and views now that the NSL is in force and they know big brother is watching lol. Karma is a bitch.

Chinese dissidents say they’re being harassed by a businessman with links to Steve Bannon

I like how they don't mention Guo's name in the title as if he's a protected asset of sorts.

This is where the west MSM is controlling the narratives. They keeps telling us that Hong Kongers are fighting for "freedom" because they have none. Yet these FLG are free enough to erect illegal structures in the middle of the pedestrian zone. But you won't get the MSM highlighting this. I wonder why?

Wonder why the police let them make stand like that on public property. They catch pedestrian food stand, why this one on the road is allowed. Maybe it's time to make new regulation. Especially regarding cults. Better to prevent earlier than cure it later after becoming disaster and lots of people involved.
Normally this kind of shady organisation will start demanding, protesting or even rioting in order to get what they want.

Anyway, it's good to see there was someone who concerned and took action dismantling that thing.

I'm still curious of what they use to lure people into joining their group. This FLG is pretty big and all over the world, also they seem to be financially strong too.

A letter from HKer to UN human rights. Common HK citizen looks more appreciative and thankful to NSL. Better days ahead.

"Yes, true, but this chill only applies to rioters who bashed public and private properties, threw petrol bombs, and even burned normal people who disagreed with them, causing catastrophic damage to our economy and livelihoods. Now they have to answer for their lawbreaking behaviour."
"For regular citizens, the Hong Kong national security is a ray of sunshine after a period of prolonged darkness, a chance to breathe, and to return to our normal lives. It deserves celebration. We were all grateful that China was able to help us emerge from the rampage of destruction."
"Your heart of gold on human rights is misplaced on rioters. Please watch real riot situations in Hong Kong, not the dressed-up parts reported by Western media with ulterior political motives."

Dont under-estimate the power of wikipedia though. I would strongly suggest that those who have the free time create an account on wiki. People like Amigao have years of experience and persistence. They also edit in a way that is not against the rules, they know the system. Also keep in mind that highly educated and influential people use Wiki as a source. Dont always just bitch about western media, be prepared to participate it in it too. Many times over the past year, anti-china accounts have been outnumbering other voices on wiki and crushing dissent. We are masters of our own destiny.
