This article is Fake news.
The SMEE 28nm DUVL Machine is 100% Made In China.
All the main components are made by local companies.
The system integrator SMEE is under sanction so chances of getting Japanese parts are zero.
SMEE only developed its 90nm DUVL in 2016 because it had to ensure every part of the Machine was 100% locally made.
Hi WTAN,

Thanks I'm waiting for your opinion. The only part of the article which is true is the SMEE 28NM DUVL will be online by 2021, maybe by SMIC in Beijing?

I think there will be several prototypes built. 4 Units?
ICRD/Huawei will get it first early next year.
SMIC will also get one.
These Machines will be used for verification and testing initially. Later on used for production.
Initially can only be used to produce 28nm Chips.
Later it will be upgraded to be able to produce 14nm and 7nm Chips.

Hi WTAN,

Multiple vendor for faster verification?

but I think if the US tell Japan to stop cooperating with China ... Japan would obey to the US, sadly :(

Why are people still talking about Japan and cooperation. Fools, those morons have only made live miserable for China since 1894. They work in tandem with US and their allies/cronies. You should think people have learned their lesson after so much time. Really disappointed about the lack of realism I encounter. Fuck Japan and concentrate on China.

I hope you are right. I would shoot the fools in their legs who lay trust in sourcing such important materials from Japan. No shortcuts anymore. Every component of the litho-machine should be produced within China otherwise it's useless.

Hi Appix,

Japan can only realize it's dream of revitalizing it's SEMI CONDUCTOR by working with China especially on EUVL, China had completed the tools needed but lack the light source , while Japan GIGAPHOTON has just develop a LPP without any buyer since ASML the only producer of EUVL is contract to CYMER of US. They lock out Japan in the EUVL field to curtail her from developing one. So the Anglosphere nation distrusted Japan and she knows it, It's about we bury the hatchet and work together, Japan can't harm us as we grow stronger, the current PM acknowledge it as it didn't ban Huawei.

The first domestically developed LCOS chips have moved into mass production, raising hopes of breaking a monopoly in the field.

LCOS, or Liquid Crystal On Silicon, is a micro display chip made by a combination of silicon-based material and liquid crystal technology. It’s essential in the electronic information industry, widely used in display applications such as projectors, laser TV and AR and VR glasses.

The annual potential demand for LCOS chips is over hundreds of millions. But the field has long been monopolized by the US and Japan. Shanghai HXC Industry Co is expected to spell the end to that situation.

HXC developed the country’s first LCOS chips last year. Over the past year, the company have worked to improved their performance, and mass production began this month, a move Li Kun, the company’s general managed, described as a great leap forward.

Zheng Weimin, an academician from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said: “Very few domestic companies are engaged in designing and developing LCOS chips. It has a high entry threshold, but it also has bright market prospects.”

A good insight from Asia Times.

Conclusion : The tech war unleash China innovative spirit, proud of it's national identity and had identified the US as an enemy. In other words it awaken the Dragon from its slumber.

I have one answer: fuck Japan. We should not source critical and strategical material from a country that since 1894 has only brought one or the other way misery upon us. What Japan can realize with or without cooperation is not my concern. My concern lies wholly with China and the establishment of a domestic semiconductor supply chain. We should have learned our lessons the past generations when dealing with USSR, West-Europe, Japan and USA. I prefer realism and not doves who again want to lay critical levers in the hands of a stooge of the American Empire.
