Question: Does China have greenbelt policies for its biggest metropolitan areas, like London or Portland? This is because if cities like Beijing and Shanghai have population caps in the central city, won't this just encourage more and more urban sprawl (i.e. Shanghai and Suzhou linking up to become essentially one big continuous urban area like Tokyo and Yokohama, if it hasn't already)?

Watch this vid, Yukon explains how China can build lots of 50 million pop metros like Tokyo and it's for the better due to higher efficiency.

@Crang Only ones preventing North Korea from developing are the American bases in Korea and Japan. North Koreans are just as capable as Chinese/South Koreans, perhaps even more so due to their discipline and lack of Western brainwashing.

Just keep the border with South Korea, and North Korea can become richer than the South. Esp with land links to China. It's just that Kim won't do that.

I agree China needs more Tokyo-style metros, but wouldn't it be easier to simply encourage greater densification in the existing urban footprint than to expand it continuously? Cities in America, like Los Angeles, learned this the hard way, in both environmental cost and traffic congestion.

But Technology is getting better. All of China's new cities like Xiongan will be totally state of the art in terms of being green.

I'm sure they will have a complete electric car infrastructure and make Shenzhen outdated in that respect. There's gonna be so much automation.

@Crang I think NK can slowly open up once US influences dwindles in the region. China only needs uptight Kim because the US is on its doorstep. If there's anyone that can lead NK to prosperity it's China since NK is just like a Northern Chinese province stuck during the 70's.

Kim's not going to open up though. He has a good chance of losing power and coming to a bad ending

Yea, we can really only wait and see and hope for change in the area. I grew up very close to Yanbian and met North Korean workers/students. We're pretty much the same people.

US needs to gtfo of Asia so we East Asians can finally settle the region.

China can’t build denser city at the moment because of zoning restriction. There is a what you may call ‘Right to Sunshine Act’ that mandates minimal 2 hours of direct sunlight a day on all Chinese residential buildings, which makes it mathematically impossible to build denser cities.

The Key to megacities is planning, don't do what India did with Delhi and Mumbai that's for sure.

If Asian dads were more like him, we wouldn't have so much self hate in the Asian American community.
