ok so in light of this news we have the following

batch 3 same confirmation as batch 1 and 2

so thats 12 x J15 so overall thats 36 x J15 for CV-16+ CV-17, ok thats plausible and even the can go for 4 x batches for J15 or 48 aircraft

or then they can switch to batch 4 will be the J15B for CATOBAR

CATOBAR aircraft do take alot longer to develop and I could be that the demonstrator J15T which has been in development has been undergoing tests and evaluation before building future batches

the ideal situation would be

batch 01 + 02 = 24 x J15
batch 03 + 04 (J15S Twin Seater EW) = 24 x J15
batch 05 + 06 = 24 x J15B

batch 1-4 for CV-16 + CV-17

batch 5-8 for 003 + 004 (if in future)

Total 96 x J15A/J15S/J15B in 8 batches

imo this green J15 img is just an old picture,罪恶大天使 said it has improved radar and WS10h via weibo  guess J15B & J35 still have time before type003 commissioned
Correction, sorry I misunderstood his words on weibo

Here's a simulated dog fight between J-15 and F-18. However, the simulation uses parameters from the su-33, which is currently still in testing phase of its modernization program.

I'm not an expert in dog fighting but it still seems like the J-15 is the better plane in this match up. Please feel free to comment on the jets' and missiles' capabilities, and how close do you think this simulation is to real combat.

It's DCS.
The weapons aren't even what J-15 uses, but Su-33's.

Basically we should actively ignore the video, and it is not worth talking about it at all.

Why do you say it's not worth talking about at all? Is it because the J-15 is incomparably superior or inferior to the su-33?

It's not worth talking about because it's a VIDEO GAME, and in this particular case, it's actually the Su-33 (not J-15) vs the Hornet. You do understand that J-15 has completely different avionics, sensors, and weapons suite, right?

Well, I don't agree. Two points. First, I presume you put "video game" in caps because you are trying to point out that video games are not accurate representation of reality. That's not necessarily true; I mean, aren't simulated flight trainings for fighter pilots just expensive video games?

As far as I can see, DCS is pretty realistic. It's also endorsed by retired F-18 pilot C.W. Lemoine, who comments that the simulation is "highly realistic"

. At the very least, it offers better operational/strategic visualization than just hardware specs written in English on a forum post. Please actually watch the video first before dismissing it:

Second, J-15 having different avionics, sensors, and weapon from the su-33 is clearly something worth talking about. For example, how much better/worse are Chinese radar, flight control, and weapons systems compared to Russian ones? If Chinese systems are better, then that means the simulation underestimates the J-15; if Chinese systems are worse, then would it be more an even fight?

This argument would hold some water if DCS were used to train fighter pilots. It is not.

No, it is not, and even if it were, it wouldn't be in this specific instance due to it simulating a Su-33.

You should take your own advice and watch the video. He used the word "realistic" to describe the cockpit layout (i.e. the buttons and switches), albeit many functions remain incomplete. He also described the bomb dropping graphics as realistic. That's about it. In fact, he discussed at length about a litany of inaccuracies and problems, such as the inability to side glance, the wonky controls, unimplemented functions, mapping issues, and the virtual pilot having trouble handling 7g, etc.

Great, do it somewhere else. Because Sinodefence Forum forbids comparison threads and posts. Hello, have you read our rules?
