Because both sides know Chinese are peaceful and Americans would go in guns blazing.
It’s not what we know that matters. It’s how this will be spinned by the media....again: Chengdu consulate could refuse to close, so it’s blocked off by Chinese police. China then painted as the aggressor that’s besieging an US consulate. Could care less about the media, but why give them that ammunition.
Well all those prisoner transfer footages are being used as Uyghur concentration camp propaganda.
It's a matter of whether or not you're raised to lie and cheat and steal. Chinese are taught to not 吹牛 and 撒谎. We don't want to lose face.
It takes a lot of thought and inner struggle for typical Chinese to lie.
Americans have mastered the art of deceit through centuries of struggle with colored people and other capitalists.
We Chinese didn't get the reputation of being non-violent, quiet and smart for no reason.

If China is going to stay idealistically honest and noble. Then it’s going to have a hard time winning this long battle against the Americans.
The alternative would be throwing away what makes us Chinese, which is hard to do because it is pretty much in our genes after thousands of years of Chinese civilization.
I think China can still win through patience, hard work, and luck.
I’m all for patience and hard work. But this is realpolitik, and only going to get more intense and nasty. Staying honest doesn’t win you any brownie points. Winning wins you points.
