I was under the impression that at this stage a conventionally powered Type 003(CV 18) is all but confirmed. The island configuration in this CG is more in line with a follow on CVN design.
The guys in 贴吧 believe it's nuclear powered and people from CJDBY believe it's conventional powered. They've been arguing about this for quite a while.

This guy is from 贴吧 so no surprise...

Actually nothing is confirmed. The conventional theory is more supported now because that seems the logical progress of development. All we have now is rumors which sadly support both side. And some "big shrimp" making firm claims is not helping either.

Yes, we had similar discussions when building 002. Nobody wanted the obvious, everyone has always seen the great new thing that has never been seen before.

... and what do I miss? As an PLAAF nerd I must admit I don't know what side has the better arguments. What side do you prefer and why?

I expect the Chinese to take the longer and safer route and build an atomic icebreaker first.

This is their way: to move quickly, diligently and with precision in small steps to an ambitious goal and to quickly catch up with the experiences that were denied them in the past.
