Taiwan officially still claimed to be the republic of China. Therefore it claimed to represent all things China. As such, it is a bit rich in international organisation to have two separate entitities representing one country. It is akin to have democrats and republicans in the UN both claiming to represent USA.
Now, being there as observatory status is upon the representing country's obligation to grant any of its cities/provinces/state to attend. Again it's akin to the USA allowing, say Florida to attend as observer status. So the push by the USA for Taiwan is just politics.
As such, I doubt any country would want to get involved, particularly if they are no advantages in doing so. Once again, I'm disappointed, but not surprise that Australia has shown itself to be so compliant. Particularly in the long run, it's not in their interest to support this move.

All this rant could easily be applied to Trump and Pompeo's accusation of China man made bio-virus weapons leaked from Wuhan with ENORMOUS proof (But none forthcoming) that suggested China is guilty before the world audience!
