Hong-Kong Protests

I think Beijing simply had other priorities.

Think of it as a boxing match: no matter how well you defend, your opponent is going to get in a few hits. This time it is Hong Kong, but before, we had the Diaoyu Island and the Huangyan Shoal, and before that we had Libya and THAAD.

The US is aggressively attacking China on all fronts, and China is trying to defend against those attacks while building up its own strength.

I think Hong Kong is already lost, and that it will only be rebuilt once the 1c2s system ends. The only question left is, who will gain the advantage from Hong Kong's loss?

First.thing,I wonder which group will do well at the elections. The comments sectionof these news links have viewpoints that the current pro Beijing parties are going to loose. I hope that is just wishful thing on their part.

Yes, they have retreated to the Chinese university in what was "ma liu shiu" (a villeage i know too well) that was built in 1963.

Unfortunately, to get there there's really only one road to get in and out. Though there are other ways to walk in and out.
What's that? The terrorists have holed themselves up in one place with only one way in or out? I don't think that it's possible to overstate the opportunity this presents! A "stronghold" full of people who can't fight their own death trap.

It's possible to cull nearly all of them out of the population with probably zero civilian casualties! They wouldn't even have a chance to switch clothes and pretend to be normal citizens! It couldn't get more perfect than this. No matter how many provisions they have, they'll run out in days, not to mention a water/gas/electricity out. It's possible to block the road and wait for them to come out or simply to send in trained personnel to drag them out like screaming rats from their tunnels and then send all the ones who submitted and are still alive to re-education through labor camp.

It doesn't matter who wins at the elections. HK's fate is sealed, and a change of politicians won't make a whit of difference.

Seems like a trap.

Now that the rioters are obviously loosing all credibility, the foreign powers pulling their strings are partly setting them up as juicy bait; but mostly trying to keep them bottled up as a means of control, to stop them beating up civilians, as they know the western MSM can no longer keep censoring such news now that they have actually murdered a civilian

If the police go in, the brainwashed and hand picked extremist amongst them would probably turn the whole thing into a giant bloodbath.

If you siege them, it’s a forced mass hunger strike.

Either way it’s live-streamed across the world and given prime time coverage by the western MSM and social media to generate sympathy points to boost their flagging international support.

The best thing to do is to cut all internet hardlines and jam all cell signals.

These brainwashed rioters’ whole sense of self worth is dependent on foreign approval.

Cut that off and see their moral collapses.

The police should bottle them up but allow food, water and medical supplies in.

If they want out, they walk out one at a time into handcuffs.

If they want to stay, they can, and the world will forget about them.

These terrorists and murderers peddle in violence but are quite incapable at it to be perfectly honest. Their actions beckon for escalation and similarly merciless violence. If the silent majority and police ever escalate to levels beyond "reasonable" many would not feel any sympathy for them. A few cops bashing up (but leaving intact) some idiots trying to beat up cops and carrying weapons is more than justified in HK and anywhere else in the world. I'm hoping the cops and now angry citizens can force feed these assholes their own medicine. Like bitchy snowflakes who cannot tolerate others but demand tolerance for their own unrealistic wishes, I bet they falter quickly.

They wouldn't hole up in one place any more. They had tried this method a few years ago for the occupy central movement. The rioters considered this method as a total failure and blamed the "leftists" for it. Two groups were formed after the occupy central. One of them is the traditional leftists which are mostly college students. And the other one is various HK independent groups which consists of mostly college students, high school students, unemployed, and underemployed.

After seeing this I think HK gov't should be toppled.

But replaced with actual leaders and not wannabes
:) Maybe, if by "toppled" you mean the politicians should be voted out of office. (I doubt the Hong Kong judges can be ousted the same way, as they are probably not elected.)

But the island might not have to go that far.

I think the chances are rather good that many of these judges are vulnerable to corruption charges; their prolonged miscarriage of justice with respect to clearly guilty rioters would suggest the wig wearers are maybe not so honourable.

And not all the corrupt judges may need to be deposed. I don't pretend to know Hong Kong's legal system. However, if the cops can choose which judges get to see the arrested rioters, then we don't need many honest judges. As long we can also arrange for honest courts of appeal, the thugs can be thrown in the slammer, and the riots will end.
