Turkish President warns NZ over mosque attacks, invokes Gallipoli

Turkish President President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has invoked the Anzacs' Gallipoli campaign in World War I in responding to the mosque attacks in Christchurch, saying anyone who went to Turkey for anti-Muslim reasons would be returned "in coffins", as their grandfathers were.

The Hurriyet news site reported that Erdogan had referred to the failed invasion of the Gallipoli peninsula by allied forces, including the Australian and New Zealand troops, in World War I and said Turkey would "write history" again if anyone stood against Turks, Muslims and all the oppressed.

In a message apparently aimed at New Zealanders and Westerners, Erdogan said: "Your grandparents came, some of them returned in coffins. If you come as well like your grandfathers, be sure that you will be gone like your grandfathers," he said.

Erdogan, who is on the campaign trail before Turkey's elections later this month, was speaking at Canakkale, near the Gallipoli peninsula, at an event to mark the defeat of the Allied forces.

He said "the enemies of Muslims have shown that they continue to hate us".

"They are testing us from 16,500km away, from New Zealand, with the messages they are giving from there. This is not an individual attack, it is organised."

It comes after Erdogan used the footage of the gunman's attack in one of his election campaign rallies to highlight Islamophobia in Western countries.

Foreign Minister Winston Peters is now due to travel to Indonesia and Turkey and said he would use those trip to talk to governments in those countries about the attacks.

"I met with Turkish Vice President Oktay, and Foreign Minister Cavusologlu on Sunday evening, and discussed New Zealand's significant response and how we have condemned this terrorist attack by a foreign national.

The Turkish delegation left with a clearer understanding of the situation in Christchurch, having seen first-hand the efforts of the New Zealand Government in supporting the Muslim community."

LOL...I thought they were playing this silly game of "gotcha" Circle Game.

A game of

vision,

The game starts out when the Offensive Player creates a circle with their thumb and forefinger, not unlike an "

His goal is to trick another person into looking at his hand. If the Victim looks at the hand, he has

with a closed fist, by the offensive player.

Rules:
1. The Offensive Player's hand must be below his waist.

2. The Victim should attempt to see

without looking down. In other words, by peripheral vision, the Victim realizes there is a circle-hand event occurring. The Victim has two possible methods to win the game:

a. The Victim does not look down at

. Instead, the Victim stares the Offensive Player in the eye and says, "I'm not going to look at that." (or words to that effect.)

b. The Victim does not look down at the signal. Instead, the Victim quickly pokes his index finger through the Offensive Player's circle-hand display. If he can poke inside and break the circle, HE wins, and gets to hit the Offensive player in the bicep. This action requires excellent motor skills (to poke the circle without actually looking directly at it.)

3. If the Victim looks at the circle, he loses (and is hit.)

4. If the Victim attempts to poke the circle and misses, he loses (and is hit.)

5. If the Victim attempts to poke the circle and Offensive player closes the circle, trapping Victim's finger, then the Victim loses (and is hit.)

It is customary to playfully "wipe off the hit" after it is delivered. (Quick

brush on the bicep.)

There is

on the type of distraction allowed by the Offensive Player to draw attention to the signal. A good tactic is saying, "Hey, is this yours?" Or, "You

try one of these."

There is no limit on the number of times a day you can try this out. You'll find some people are "easy to get" and some people have good alertness and peripheral vision, "tougher to get."

HOUSTON — A fire at a Houston-area petrochemical storage site continued to rage late on Monday and is expected to burn for up to two more days, officials said, sending thick black smoke into the air for miles around.

Firefighters were making progress seeking to contain the blaze at Intercontinental Terminals Co (ITC), with the number of giant storage tanks on fire reduced to six from seven earlier, said ITC spokeswoman Alice Richardson.

The blaze at a site along the Houston Ship Channel in Deer Park, Texas, began Sunday when a leak from a tank containing volatile naphtha ignited and spread to others in the same complex, the company said. The tanks hold tens of thousands of barrels of products used to boost gasoline octane, make solvents and plastics.

The blaze has not disrupted nearby refineries or shipping at the country's busiest petrochemical port, authorities said. The Houston Ship Channel is home to nine U.S. oil refineries that process 2.3 million barrels per day (bpd), or 12 percent of the national total.

ITC, which is owned by Japan's Mitsui & Co, reported no injuries among its staff. Nearby residents were encouraged to remain indoors by the city of Deer Park, which lifted a shelter-in-place order for all residents imposed earlier on Monday.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality had "not detected any immediate health concerns at ground level" around the plant as of midday Monday. The state was also seeking to bring in a specialized aircraft to monitor emissions at higher altitudes.

The burning tanks held naphtha and xylene, fuels used in gasoline and plastics and toluene - a volatile liquid used to make nail polish remover and paint thinner. Other tanks held base oils commonly used as machine lubricants.

Firefighters were seeking to drain naphtha from one of the tanks to deprive the fire of fuel.

"It's going to be probably two days," said Ray Russell, communications officer for Channel Industries Mutual Aid, which coordinates firefighting departments from Houston Ship Channel plants.

"It's going to have to burn out at the tank," he said at a briefing.

He has been long lost since day one when he envisioned himself as the new Calipha (leader of all Muslims). He has pointed his fingers many times at many Countries west and east for his perceived persecution of Muslim population outside of Turkey ignoring his own persecution of Kurdish Muslims and invasion of neighbouring Muslim Country Syria. A true multi-faced person.

Now why take on New Zeeland for a criminal from Australia? What did New Zeeland do this time to Turkey?

The disabled boy who crawls to school
Silkina Ahluwalia 14:29, 19-Mar-2019

Abdul Holik's walk to school is anything but ordinary. The brave eight-year-old was born prematurely with a physical disability that resulted in his feet and legs severely deformed. However, his enthusiasm for school outperforms his physical limitations.

Each day, he has to make his way through steep paths and rocky surfaces with a knapsack strapped to his back and his hands slipped into a pair of sandals. Abdul has never allowed his condition to become an obstacle for him. His mother, Pipin, remembers when Abdul was just three years old and begging her to send him to school.

"He told me he wants to learn how to read and be like everyone else. I was confused at first because I wasn't sure which school would take in a disabled child," said Pipin.

The worry kept her awake most nights. It took her weeks to finally find a school that accepted Abdul despite his limitations. That school is located six kilometers from their house. At first, Pipin thought it was impossible for her son to attend the school as there are no bus services at their small village in Sukabumi, West Java.

But the family was determined. They slowly began teaching Abdul to walk on his hands. At first, Pipin would accompany Abdul's walk to school every day but now he is comfortable enough to navigate the rocky roads himself.

From his house up in the hills to his school, Abdul crosses steep paths every day. When the rainy season arrives, the road is very slippery and dangerous, which poses a risk to Adul. On days like that, his parents try to use motorcycle taxis, a common means of transport in the village. A one-kilometer ride costs IDR7,000, less than one U.S. dollar. Pipin says it depends on whether they have the money to spare. If there is no money, Abdul continues his crawl to school by hand.

At school, Abdul's principal recalls the first day he attended class. Epi Mulyadi saw huge potential in Abdul. His zest for learning ultimately won him over and Edi decided to immediately enroll him in his school.

"When Abdul registered in the school, I could tell his mother was nervous. But I reassured her, there is nothing wrong with Abdul aside from his physical disabilities. We see that he can follow along in the classroom just fine and he has no problems socializing with his friends," said Epi.

Abdul is currently in the third grade. His teachers describe him as a child with high enthusiasm and diligence in his schoolwork. Epi also said that even though he has physical limitations, Abdul is very active in participating in extracurricular activities, especially in sports.

For Abdul himself, his dream is simple. He wants to excel in school so he can achieve his dream of attending university in the big city.

"My dream is to become a firefighter because I want to help people in need. I also just want to make my parents happy," said Abdul.

Besides that, it turns out that he has other ideals, namely becoming a doctor. Likewise, if you become a doctor, he continued, the goal is also the same, to help other people, especially those who are experiencing pain.

Despite his physical disability, Abdul continues to strive for his dreams by being an active and enthusiastic child in school. His zest for life and learning has given him the opportunity to go far and his support system is helping to push him even further into his bright future.

Naphtha fires are hard to put out. I'm surprised the tanks are not equipped with foam fire prevention/fighting system. Since naphtha is basically gasoline, water don't really do anything.
