US Air Force LRS-B Bomber Thread - the B-21 Raider

The B-21 Raider has the potential to be a great and relatively inexpensive platform. As long as they don't overdo it with the maintenance prone RAM and other stealth design characteristics which make it a pig to maintain like the B-2 or the F-22.

The simple fact that it will be a two engine aircraft alone should reduce costs quite a lot. Plus these are F-35 engines so it will have more dry thrust than the F-22 and hence carry more payload, also it will fly further, especially with that flying wing shape.

The engines for the B21 are not the F135. B21 is subsonic it will use tech from F35 but not engines. The engines may have common cores and technology even a maker Pratt and Whitney but they are not F135s. Just as those that power the B2 are not the same as those that power the F/A18.

now Some ‘hiccups’ with engine design, but B-21 on track, Wittman says

They don't have an airplane yet, I'm fairly certain of that, and fast tracking design is the plan, but its already running into reality,, this may be a scaled down and back B-2, but this is still a technologically risky piece of equipment,, I think it ridiculous to make it so small that it carries only one weapon, and this engine is gonna take a LOT of air, if Pratt says this is what it will take to run the combustion, you damn well better bet they know what they're talking about~! the folks building the intakes and ducts will have to provide AIR!

Its not going to be "inexpensive", no sir, its NOT! LOL, (insane maniacal laughter, echoing and echoing through the hallowed halls of the "Pentagon", inexpensive, that my friend is BS, oh it will end up costing nearly as much per airframe as the B-2,,, mark my word!

In which universe of accounting? ;)

In 1997, the fly away cost of a B-2 was estimated to be $737M. In 2018 $, that's $1.169B.

The B-2.1, ahem, B-21 is supposed to have a fly away cost of $550M or less in 2015 (iirc) $. That's $594M in 2018 $.

Unless there's a major snafu, the B-21 will cost significantly less, whether its inflation adjusted dollars or magically inflation free dollars. The contract is designed to be wildly different than the B-2 and the RCO has a history of delivering.

PS.Demonstrators have flown for both the BoLock and NorGrum B-21 entries. How close they are to the final designs, IDK.

Pictures or it didn't happen?? LOL, I'm not saying they didn't, but I'm very skeptical of having something near proto-type status flying, more likely "proof of concept" at best??? but they do know they've got issues with the wing?? but more specifically the "induction system"

In the real universe Bub, tell me when we've launched highly sophisticated new aircraft that have not doubled or tripled prices in the Prototype, LRIP stage, this chick is NOT ready for primetime? they are shooting for 550 million, I'll call it at least 800 million, and probably closer to the big 1.0 for Raptor 2.1, LOL!

44.75/21 = 2.1310

here ya go, Master Jura is on a roll,, but early birds will be very, very top heavy,, trust me on this, I've been watching it for a half century, and this bird is NOT a 1/2 scale B-2,, in fact its much easier to scale up?? than it is to scale down??
