F-22 Raptor Thread

I hope he's wrong, too. However, 90% of the time, he isn't when it comes to American aircraft news and programs.

Rather then the Raptor coming back into production, far more likely, the PCA/NGAD will get accelerated by a couple years.

Now if you check today's Air Force Magazine report 10/16/18, we learn that Air Force Brass who visited Sunday confirmed that the F-22's are "largely intact", and that they are cautiously optimistic that they will be restored to flight status?? I believe they are all setting in containers of rice, powered DOWN, once they are sure they are dried out, they will "juice those girls up" and see what works?? and what doesn't??

So if you or Jura would like to link those daily report articles, it would be helpful to many of our readers....

One other point was that NO report on those Raptor's and their serviceability or lack there-of will be coming this week due to "operational considerations" another caveat was not to attempt to guess how many Raptor's had been left behind by the number that landed in Ohio?? I believe they are going to JB Eustice???

so I'd say the report that a dozen had been left behind is an exaggeration, but hey, it could have been 24?? the definitive number we have heard was 4, 3 in one hangar that was damaged, and 1 in another hangar that also suffered damage....

Some of the information is being fed by personal contacts in the AF. Kinda hard to post their links. ;) . Since it is scuttlebutt, I'd recommend taking with a grain of salt. After the dust settles, I'd still watch Tyndall. I could easily see the USAF saying things are slightly better than they are.

Even 4 Raptors would be a big blow, especially with the recent landing mishaps. Given how long and how much it cost to repair the one Raptor we've seen, I'd say we're in for pain even if its 'just' 4.

That said, stand by is the proper response.

Nice article but your last statement must have come after an evening at your favorite Pub,,,
just to clarify LOL what I meant by

"and I want to believe the Pentagon just didn't want to write off some trashy copies of Raptors this way"

was a Conspiracy which, had it been real, would've lead to intentionally leaving behind some Raptors (those with issues)

(hope you know I'm not in the MIC; Deep State; or any other Conspiracy, LOL)

wow, I've just heard what "cann birds" are:

"USAF officials said the aircraft remained behind because they were, for various reasons, unflyable. Some were grounded for lack of parts, others were in the midst of partial teardown inspections, and some were “cann birds,” meaning they were being cannibalized for parts to allow others to fly."

Interesting, some of the "maintainers" supporting claims of from 12 to 19 F-22's grounded, and in the big Hangar's, but the top brass is saying that the aircraft appear to be "intact" and that they are encouraged. I'm encouraged too, heck I've been wearing black all summer for the F-22's having class A runway "boo boo's", guess I'll keep wearing black until we get the "straight skinny"??

for those wishing to allege that the top brass are being coy, or even dishonest??? #1 shame on you #2 you know neither the Chinese or the Russians would be this forth-coming, wouldn't happen, couldn't happen!

You cracked me up with the shame on you bit.

Generals are human. Humans often CYA. Brass has been busted for things in the US before and relatively recently. Admittedly, it was the Navy, but the whole Fat Leonard scandal is a good example. Or should we also mention the outright bribery Boeing pulled in the first round of the tanker competition saga? People went to jail for that. Or Gen Westmoreland, back in the day...or a few more recently.

People are fallible. Including the American military brass. The best way to keep them honest is to not just accept what they say.

The US Air Force (USAF) suffered damage to a number of its aircraft as Hurricane Michael struck Tyndall Air Force Base (AFB) in Florida on 10 October.

Up to 17 Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor fighters and an undisclosed number of Boeing QF-16 target drones are reported to have sustained unspecified levels of damage as the Category 4 hurricane hit the station that is located on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico.

...

With the USAF describing the 240 kph-hurricane as having 'wreaked havoc' across the base, images released in the immediate aftermath show severe damage to these hangars, exposing the aircraft within. While the extent of the damage to the aircraft is being assessed, initial indications from service officials are that all are salvageable.

Despite this optimistic early assessment, the USAF has just 183 F-22s in its inventory, of which some 153 are suitable for combat, with the remainder being used for training.

We'll see. Hope for the best. 17 is higher than I had heard though.
