More newly released old images, which may look familiar...

Are we sure they're not the same type as the WS-10X seen on the J-10B testbed? It makes little sense to develop two separate variants, one with TVC and one without, when both the J-20 and the J-10X are likely to feature TVC.

The J20 is underpowered as it is with WS10s instead of WS15s, so would not want to further compound the issue by adding TVC and the associated weight and thrust loss penalties.

The new WS10 mounted on the J20 probably took whatever thrust increases was available on the latest version of the engine and swapped in jagged petals for signature reduction for no real weight or thrust penalty to bring the plane’s performance closer to the designed optimal.

reliable source (铁背心) from FYJS claims J20 is seen equipped with TVC nozzle today. Ground test is imminent.
edit: I just looked at some J20 watcher and photographer on weibo, they confirmed that one TVC equipped J20 is spotted at CAC. However, no picture of the aircraft has been seen on the internet yet so we will have to wait a bit.
Now there's a drawing.

What happened to the Yellow J-20 with sawtooth petals some month ago? That wasnt already TVC? Maybe it was only for testing the sawtooths and not TVC after all, which is why it has flown with two of those engines already installed instead of one, as suggested by the manhua image.

If true, this would give the strongest testament to date that the Chinese were beyond impressed with the kinematic performance of the OVT on those SU-35's..

I'd like the hear the Eng's take on this, Eng??

one of our few aerodynamic area's of disagreement,, it would also tell us the canard alone did NOT bring them the pitch authority they were seeking??

I'm going to remain skeptical at this stage, and while I only remember them delivering 9 SU-35s?? did I miss something, they bought 24,,,

So the BMW J-20 was only for testing thrust-vectoring?

I wonder how people might spin the fighter-bomber/interceptor theory once we have proof of a J-20 variant with TVC engines. 3D TVC for short take-off/landing or RCS reduction via minimal control surface movements? :D
