I liked these hangar shots too:View attachment 45371 View attachment 45372 View attachment 45373 When compared with the cramped confines of the preceding Invincible class. which had a 'dumbbell shape' due the restrictions imposed by the Gast Turbine downtakes to port and exhaust trunking to starboard:View attachment 45374

Yep, that is a BIG HANGAR BAY!, all that free space is amazing, and well planned, the structural engineering that allows you to have that much "free span" without bulkheads and support?? well lets just say, this ship is an amazing piece of engineering as well as technical prowess to bring it to fruition!

now once they launch with a full complement of aircraft and helo's, then the fun of "deck handling" will be part of the daily grind, just ask BD?? lots and lots of aircraft shuffling and the one you "want" is always at the back of the hangar and farthest from the elevator,,

I've moved lots and lots of airplanes, and those longer term projects were always at the back of the hangar when the "customer" came to pick them up!

you have to be very careful, sometimes having a "helper or two or three" holding overlapping wings up or down??? LOL

More shots of Big Liz alongside at Gibraltar, her first overseas port visit. She's due to leave today, 12th Feb (incidentally my 48th Birthday, Damn I still look young!) to continue her SHOL trials over the next few weeks before returning to Pompey in March:27797473_10155102546901481_6516480903057469073_o.jpg 27788167_10155105411576481_5149986085350950387_o.jpg 27983148_10155043407985940_3357938307906325672_o.jpg

Happy Birthday Bub, and you're right, have a look at my avatar, between me, you, BD, Jeff Head,,, we just get more distinguished looking each day!

my wife the Honey Badger is now a Banker, but she was my "hairdresser",,,, married me because of my "magazine hair", it was something to see,, white guy with a real Afro,, but my fro is gone, stripped right down the middle,,, I SWORE I would NEVER do a "combover"...

so I'm not left with much, I'm trying to go shorter, but I don't think I'd have much luck with the "shaved head" look?? LOL

anyway, I'm surprised NBC didn't hire you to help out Al Roker and Katie Couric at the Winter Olympics!

Nice pic Invincible hangar much more small and even Ocean hangar can't host CH-47 with deployed blades advantage with QE for long deployment and eventual bad weather and he have more room - previous pages - for bottles LOL

The photo of Invincible's hangar was taken in the narrow centre section; the ships hangars had a 'Dumbell' shape with wider bays a the front and rear. The forward bay was usually used for major maintenance jobs like engine changes on the Sea Harriers, as to remove the engine you had to lift the wing off and there was an overhead crane forward:helo4.jpg cvf-delta-av hangar comparison.jpg The upper picture shows the aft hangar bay, normally home to the helos requiring maintenance whilst the Harriers used the forward bay. The lower picture compares the size of the Invincible's hangar and lifts (blue outlines) with the CVF hangar and lifts (red outline). A lot more room to party!
