Chinese Economics Thread

China is not actually comparable to US on consumption in dollars because as you said before they got 4x the mouths to feed. It is more important to compare in PPP because 90% of consumption is local for foods and goods in China. In nominal dollars US is ahead and will stay ahead for a long time, unless china's Yuan appreciates significantly. The problem with all these grow another Canada a year or percent growth per year is that it is all relative. The supposedly slow down in Chinese growth is not slowing down, because in absolutely numbers, they are growing faster! They are decelerating, not slowing down. The same apply to consumption, where the price to feed one person with local produce is 1/4 the cost of US. If all we are comparing are LV handbags and Mercedes then it makes sense, but when it comes to daily goods, PPP is the way to go. The Chinese government don't give a hoot how big their consumer market is to the US, as long as they know they got leverage over foreign companies and a giant tax base from it. The key for them is growth, absolute growth and not percent.
Absolutely, but the scope of that discussion was very specific and limited to nominal GDP as it has greater implication to global imprint.

I'm sure that PPP-wise, Chinese consume more. You couldn't convince anyone that 1.4 billion people eat less food and need less resources to live and function than 325 million but it wasn't a part of the specific discussion we were having on specific figures.

That is why Spain and England suffer large budget deficit and specially in Spain suffer from high youth unemployment.
There is limit how far government should pay for health care having such a generous health might not be good for the budget
..

BTW Chinese government implementing the health care step by step the figure that you quote is a bit outdated Every year they increase the subsidy, benefit and increase the accessibility
It is work in progress So you laugh too early. compare to any other large country China is doing well Even in US 20% of population had no access to health care. Maybe imroving now with Obamacare
You cannot implement health care in one fell swoop for 1.4 billion people It is not possible It might be possible for small country like Great Brittain or spain

I just checked the UK, and it has deficit in the 1% range.

You are free to give fresh numbers / data /experience / link about the Chinese healt system for Chinese citizens.

Europe is not a small "country", but I have free health insurance everywhere in it.

Many Chinese people I know, including my family, have purchased everything, housing included, by cash. Those who don't, get a mortgage for necessity and try to pay it off as quickly as possible.
....
Trust me , the mortgage is a forced neccesity everywhere, not a hapily taken option.
As soon as you introduce mortgage to the market it become neccessity to buy a house.

And generaly the consumer / loan strategy is accomodated by part of the population, I am sure about that in China you can found the low down payment car/apiance buyers as well. And the number of the will increase by time.

In my surrounding I don' know anyone who taken other loan than mortgage ( many hasn't got mortgage at all )
Japan and South Korea have no hope of rivaling China and problems that could crumple their economies are solved and maneuvered around by China's state-controlled economy.

We don't run Soviet style economy; we run Chinese style economy. High level of control, high level of growth, highly responsive to adaptation needs.
....

Yes, the high level of control and growth makes the Chines and the CCCP economy similar...
Robbery?? There you go again, when cornered with no more nonsense left to pelt, you spread go off topic like an oil spill. There is no robbery. Chinese people live to make China a stronger nation, whatever sacrifices that comes with. ...
The Chinese sacrafice the opportunuty to choose the most effective business to give serives/ make things. And this makes a nation week in the long run.
I don't know what you are bitching about again here. Healthcare?? Chinese healthcare is magnitudes better than US healthcare......
I don't know the US healthcare, but I know the European , and I'm sure the chinese is magnitude more expensive and low quality compared to this.
I'm sorry, what the hell did you just say?? Change your gender for free?? Where in the bowels of Satan do you get your discussion ideas from? You're saying China needs this?? LOLOL
I think we can agree about that the gender change is an unneccesary luxory , and waste of public money. But it is free in Spain, even for visiting tourists.

Mortgage is fine; it's needed in most places. Americans buy cars, computers, TVs, furniture, kitchen appliances, even boxes of cigars on payment plan. This is highly highly unusual in China. Although you can find someone to fit any odd characteristic in any country, it is the average that counts.
In my surrounding I don' know anyone who taken other loan than mortgage ( many hasn't got mortgage at all )
Which brings us back to the point of where the hell you are from, and don't say somewhere in the US. Sounds to me like some free/subsidized sex change country? LOL

By that logic, a sheep and a wolf are "similar" animals because they both have 4 legs.

That's your (stupid) opinion. When the nation needs a bullet train line installed or a dam made for national improvement, it takes precedence over some small businesses wanting to earn money. (If these businesses are bound for success, they will find more success in an improved and updated China.) This national efficiency makes China strong; your slave attitude towards greed and immediate profit would make China weak.

Sounds like you don't know Chinese healthcare either. Are you "sure?" As sure as you were when you said that supercomputers are just normal computers hooked up to each other? LOL Seeing as how you brought up free sex changes as a big perk of European healthcare, I don't think so. By the way, European economies are envied by neither China nor America so if they do it one way, chances are, it's better to do the opposite.

Why the hell did you bring it up then? Just to babble?

Do you know the customer habbits of the average EU citizen ( or US) or you just guess?

So, think about a bit, how much the average spanish has to pay for any healthcare related thing if the gender change is free?

The most powerfull economy is the EU on the world at the moment. Just for data : )

I am quite courious if it will be a real country, or we go back to the old, nice kind of lot of small, competing country map.

But in reality id doesn't matter much, the european enviroment is very favourable to develop economies very fast, and experiment with diferent growth models.

I know, not like you. I am Chinese; I lived 25 years in America. I know. I didn't say anything about EU spending habits but I know their economy grows like an old man on a wheelchair.

A LOT. By taxes. Just because you don't pay at the door doesn't mean you don't pay. Sometimes, you pay hard and you didn't even go to the hospital this year! Why? So other people can get free sex changes LOLOLOL

Haha, the EU is a grandpa economy, only big because it is almost 30 countries combined. That's like you claim to be the best boxer in the world because when Mayweather gets in the ring alone, you try to bring 30 friends with you LOL

Don't care; off topic.

Not with the current numbers coming out, I don't see anything fast LOL. I see them experimenting with all different kinds of SLOW.

No it's not. It's smaller than the US. 28 European economies of the EU combined have a smaller nominal GDP than the US and smaller PPP than China.

And they're set to lose the UK, one of the biggest economies in the EU, real soon.

I previously mentioned all different kinds of slow (growth) in the EU but it's actually more like:

You'd best get that fixed before you go out giving economic advice about "efficiency" LOL. Until then, you can watch China add 12 digit numbers to its GDP on an annual basis.

How many hundreds of millions had the EU "country" uplifted out of poverty like China has and how many hundreds of millions MORE became middle class status? Remember EU "country" can't even handle a massive influx of Middle Easter and North African immigrants because of their countries are being ravaged by the regime changing ways? Oh yeah and don't forget a large growing right wing Nazi groups are voicing their concern about all of these immigrants taking away their benefits and entitlements.

What I'm saying is nominal GDP is meaningless due to purchasing power. Food only make up a tiny part of the US budget since it is a developed economy, in china food might be a bit more, but not much unless they are the very poor. But everything else in china is cheaper as well, like say toothbrush or even car.

The whole point of looking at this comparison for most companies is to see where there is potential for growth and clearly it is China. From a purchasing power POV they are already larger, and that's what matters. Nominal is pointless, because selling a product in china using american pricing, ie apple, will not get you very far.
