The Chinese-produced large passenger jet, C919, will make its first long-distance flight on Friday, leaving Shanghai for northwest China's Shaanxi Province where it will undergo further testing.

The plane will take off in Pudong Airport in Shanghai and fly to Yanliang Testing Base in Xi'an, according to Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), the Shanghai-based manufacturer of the jet.

The company plans to produce six test planes, with the second expected to make its maiden flight at the end of this year.

The first C919 completed its maiden test flight in May and has now made a total of five test flights. It will remain at the Yanliang base to undergo more complicated testing in order to acquire its airworthiness certificates.

Cai Jun, captain of the maiden flight, said the aircraft will fly at a height of 7,800 meters and complete the 1,400-km journey in around three hours.

"We have prepared a detailed work plan to ensure the safety of the flight from Shanghai to Yanliang," he said.

COMAC has received orders for 730 C919 planes from 27 domestic and international clients.

With a standard range of 4,075 kilometers, the C919 jet is comparable to the updated Airbus 320 and Boeing's new generation 737 planes.

BEIJING – China's homegrown large passenger jet has touched down safely after its first long-haul test flight, bringing the nation one step closer to competing directly with aircraft giants in Europe and America.

China hopes to develop its C919 jet to compete with popular single-aisle jets such as the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737.

State media said the plane lifted off the tarmac in Shanghai on Friday and flew west about 1,300 kilometers (800 miles) to the city of Yanliang.

The test flight comes on the heels of a state visit by U.S. President Donald Trump during which China signed on to buy 300 Boeing jetliners for $37 billion and $2.5 billion worth of General Electric jet engines, alongside energy and telecom deals worth a total of $253.4 billion.

BEIJING (AP) — China's homegrown passenger jet touched down safely after its first long-haul test flight on Friday, bringing the nation one step closer to competing directly with aircraft giants in Europe and America.

The C919 was originally due to begin flying in 2014 and be delivered to buyers in 2016, but has been beset by delays blamed on manufacturing problems. It's now unlikely to carry commercial passengers until at least 2019.

The jet's development is a key step on the path laid out by Chinese leaders to transform the country from the world's low-cost factory into a creator of profitable technology.

A little more than two years after its roll-out, the first C919 finally left his homeland, Shanghai, at the end of his sixth flight to Xi'an Yanliang where the China Flight Test Establishment (CFTE) is located.

It is there in the ancient Chinese capital of 3100 years that the first prototype of the Chinese medium-haul will start the certification campaign of the program, in order to obtain the type certificate (TC) issued by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), one of two certificates not available for commercial exploitation of the model.

The details of the 6th flight of C919 (Image: Flight Radar 24)

The aircraft registered 10101, or B-001A, took off this Friday, November 10 at 11:38 Beijing time. In contrast to its first five test flights, where the C919 mainly toured a coastal area north of Shanghai, the aircraft sped straight to its destination, passing over several Chinese cities, such as Nantong, Nanjing, Hefei, Fuyang, Zhoukou, Ruzhou, Shangluo, Weinan, and finally, Xi'an.

During the flight which lasted 2 hours and 24 minutes, the C919 evolved around 25 600 feet (~ 7 800 meters) in altitude, at a speed not exceeding 400 knots (~ 740 km / h). Both are inferior to the last test flight that took place on November 8, when the same aircraft reached 26,425 feet and 521 knots in a flight that lasted more than 3 hours.

. CFTE personnel held a ground ceremony where the aircraft passed through a curtain of water, created by two fire lances placed on either side of the runway, symbolizing the welcome and welcome (接风洗尘) according to Chinese tradition.

Russia and the UAE will jointly design a new civilian aircraft. What do you think this means to the C919 and even the C929, since C929 is a joint project with russia?
