Chinese military exports to other countries

Well Thailand justifies their purchased of Chinese submarine on the ground of technical proficiency and favorable financial term. As well as training, warranty, logistic and the track record of Yuan. In short a total package. Interesting all those badmouthing Chinese submarine as noisy, doesn't come into picture. We now have definite conformation that indeed Yuan has AIP and it working well
S26 might be cheap but if it so noisy no navy in the world would buy it. It is open competition against the best in the world

Faced with suspicion and many questions, on the purchase of the three S26T submarines of Chinese origin, the Royal Thai Navy held on Monday 1st May an exceptional press conference, aboard aircraft carrier HTMS Chakri Naruebet, during Which several documents and data were published to clarify the details of the contract.

Thailand's naval forces have not operated a single submarine for more than 60 years now, while neighboring countries, including those with a significant sea dispute with Thailand, such as Vietnam, Submarines.

Even the Bangladeshi navy has recently equipped

to protect its maritime interests.

Thailand has already made three acquisition attempts in 1995, 2010 and 2011 but to no avail. The difficulty for the Thai government and also for its army is not only a matter of financing - which amounts to almost € 400 million for the first hull, and € 971 million for the three required copies - but also and above all The acquisition of skills throughout the operational chain, and the guarantee of the good continuity of the associated supports.

The design of S26T is based on the Type 039A used by the Chinese Navy.

The S26T, like its big brother Type 039A, uses a double hull configuration.

The details of the contract.

The Chinese proposal around the 2,600 tonne S26T submarine (hence 26, and T for Thailand) is a G2G (Government to Government) commitment, which greatly minimizes the risks to Thailand. China also accepts a payment in 17 tranches, thus reducing the financial pressure for Thai annual budgets.

Faced with serious competition represented by Scorpene (France), Type 209 (Germany), Project 636 Varshavyanka ("Kilo" in NATO code, proposed by Russia) and DW-1400T (derived from the German Type 209 and proposed By South Korea), the elements communicated by the Thai navy indicate that the S26T stands out technologically by:

  • The reliability of its AIP anaerobic system, which has already proved its worth on the ten Chinese submarines Type 039A and Type 039B , ensuring an autonomy of 21 days under water.
  • The vast array of weapons on board, such as torpedoes, mines, and anti-ship and anti-surface missiles.
  • The rescue bell staffing and sufficient buoyancy reserve.
The shipbuilding group also offers 2 years of free warranty, a clause that was rejected by the other five manufacturers. In addition, 8 years of warranty on the availability of spare parts and 5 complete ship diagnoses.

The Thai navy says that with more than 50 diesel submarines in service, the Chinese Navy has very rich experiences on submarine operations without any security incident for its latest generation submarines.

There are also Chinese training facilities complete and adequate. Above all, the Chinese navy agrees that Thai submariners will be trained in China for 3 years.

It was for all these technological, financial and logistical reasons, intelligently tied together, that Thailand finally turned to China for the construction of its submarine forces. This is in any case what is understood from the explanation given by Admiral Luechai Riddit (ชัย ชัย รดิษฐ์ ดิษฐ์), Chief of Staff of the Thai Navy.

Of course, there are also political arguments that push the Chinese government to give so many favorable conditions for this contract. For example, this sale can be seen as a politico-military brick of the One Belt One Road strategy when one sees Pakistan, Bangladesh and Thailand, which are along the "One Road ", gradually equip themselves with Chinese military equipment.

To be continued.

I saw reports about this accident a few days ago but decide to post when seeing report from Vietnamese website that the involved weapon was a Chinese made dual canon anti aircraft gun. The canon is called Giant Bow. Other reports never mentioned where the weapon was made.

Four Indonesian soldiers have been killed and eight others injured by artillery fire in an accident during training on a South China Sea island, the army said Thursday.

It took place Wednesday when an artillery cannon malfunctioned during the exercise involving an army reserve battalion on Tanjung Datuk Natuna, on the northwestern fringe of the vast Indonesian archipelago.

"The cannon became uncontrollable and hit soldiers in the vicinity," army spokesman Alfret Denny Tuejeh told AFP.

Of the eight hurt, four suffered serious injuries, he said.

The cannon, purchased in 2003, was used a day before without any problem, he added. The military have begun an investigation to find out what caused the incident.

Possibly an overheated chamber on one side that resulted in uncontrolled firing and produced asymmetrical recoil, which began rotating the out-of-control gun and sprayed neighbouring soldiers. Something similar happens to this Tunguksa.
