F-35 Joint Strike Fighter News, Videos and pics Thread

They are going to lengthen the tail-fins while reducing their actual height in order to maintain stability and maneuverability. In other words they are going to decrease the weapons external diameter by "clipping" the tailfins and extending their length in order to fit into the internal weapons bay.
yeah I briefly looked for pictures and they'll frigging cut the tail fins:

there's statement which sounds odd to me:

will be able to carry two Meteor missiles and two air/ground weapons in the internal weapons bay for missions requiring stealth capabilities (first day of conflict scenario)."

(I highlighted the part which I didn't get; is there some special meaning of first day above? perhaps 'figurative' or 'metaphorical' meaning? I mean what if there was 'a prolonged' conflict?)

any comments?

Brother seeing you online you're sure able to explain this to me
why 'stealth capabilities' wouldn't be needed on the second day, too? LOL

Yes, first day is indeed a metaphor describing the very hostile air environment before most air defenses are neutralized or destroyed. F-22's or F-35's, B-2's are first day weapons, the idea being that after the first day, you would have "knocked out" most SAM sights, Fighter aircraft,, blah, blah, blah. That's why I am a very strong proponent of the fifth generation aircraft, without L/O, you are simply "dead meat".

F-15s, Flankers, Mig-29s, J-10s, J-15s, F-18s, F-16s, Typhoons, Rafales, go on down the list, but they would suffer extremely heavy losses,,thats why the Chinese are building the J-20 and the Russians the T-50, hoping to reduce the radar signatures that will get you "dead" or "deader than dead".

So first day describes those air-ops in that deadly environment that must be sanitized in order for our follow on four gens, to then come in and assist with the heavy lifting. Second day air ops, which should be much safer, with just the odd mobile launcher?? or something surviving "first day" attacks is also a metaphor describing a "scrubbed" or cleaner air environment, where the threat has been minimized.

This is the Aim 120A AMRAAM missile okay note the fins this is common throughout the AIm 120 A-B
But they limit the number a F22 could carry internally so

Note the fins on the Later AIM120C.

OK I've heard of finding 'Emmental cheese' holes in A2AD 'bubble' and so on and so forth, just took 'first day' literally 38 minutes ago LOL

Now they did not just take a Sawzall to the fins They replaced them with a new fin set that is longer in length and comes to a more squared shape. Like the Aim 120 above it went from sharp triangular fins to more blunt. because Fifth gens carry their weapons internally the Sharp points take up more room for less need.

because They are fine for fourth gen fighters. once the weapons began being moved inside the fighter, space became an issue. If it's hanging off in Open Air it can be spaced more freely along the wing or fuselage.
AMRAAM and Meteor were designed for 4th gen fighters the F15 and Typhoon. With F22 and F35 now emerging they need to be adapted. fortunately Fins are an easy fix.

I don't quote you but only articles you quote you don' t speak... don' t need to be agressive...cool

Those fuel tanks are 426 Gallons and their shaping is rather Stealthy,,, from their shape I would guess they can be mounted on a shorter under wing hardpoint??? no doubt they carry two, I wonder if they could carry 4?? The hard points have to be "plumbed for fuel", so lines and fittings have to be there to make those tanks functional, not a big deal, but it all adds weight?

So 850 gallons if they carry two 1700 gallons if they could carry 4, but that is iffy??

Normaly 4 according it Weapons-Stations-Capacity_v1-706x528.jpg
for weight ok remains there are all wet HP ? make sense... but for F-35B not on points 2 and 10 too limited for host these FTs.

Obvously Meteor fit in the F-35B weapons bay what is it !
The Meteor has already been checked for fit in the internal weapons bays of the JSF. It is compatible with the aircraft's internal air-to-ground stations, but would require modification of the fin span and air intakes to be compatible with the air-to-air stations
Minor modifications but on going and no problem.

Meantime i find preserved preciously :) but Meteor more big coz more fast more fuel etc ... and next Block 5 quite sure can' t host 6 as the number of AIM-120.
