Three days ago, the US Navy NAVSEA said this:

Been some bad weather over there...but we are now down to days...5-10 max IMHO, and she will be at sea. I look very forward to that.

I was reading on GRF facebook page and the weather must have played an effect on the ship getting underway this past week.

FORD Family -- Due to anticipated heavy weather tomorrow, April 6, we are keeping FORD Sailors off the roads as violent storms move through the area. To accomplish this, today's duty section will remain on board and turnover will take place tomorrow with a 1300 duty section turnover muster.

In addition to the duty section, Sailors identified by their departments as being essential personnel will report on board tonight and remain on board overnight to support the mission.

To prevent injury to Sailors, the CDO will secure the brow from midnight April 5th until noon April 6th (or high winds have abated).

We ask that the entire FORD family avoid traveling on the roads until the storm front passes. Be vigilant, follow the Tornado Safety guidelines, drive safely, and notify your chain of command with any issues that arise.

People keep saying that however I respectfully disagree due to the fact that the delays are not 'little' and this isn't the first time or ever the 10th time.. This is like the umpteenth time she has been delayed on her major milestones over the course of her construction.

I totally understand she is the first of class and as such delays are inevitable especially for something as big and as complex as she is however this has gone waaaay past that but even then there is not that much of an excuse because program managers usually DO include delays and pad extra time in the proposed timeline due to first in class problems.

She was supposed to be delivered this time LAST year. As it appears now WHEN she is delivered her AAG will not even be fully operational and they will perform concurrent testing.

Her delay and the delays on maintenance on couple of other carriers had actual national security implications. For a brief moment in time very recently the USN had ZERO I mean ZERO carriers deployed at sea anywhere in the world!!

there is also the cost aspect. Her delays has cost the American taxpayer so much $$ the Navy could easily have bought a couple more Burke Fly IIIs or even another Zumwalt!

These are BHO's leftovers fellers, he took a dagger to the heart of readiness, and procurement of meaningful equipment, and he had a democrat congress and a few wussy rhino's backing him up. This is his true legacy, loser!

Its a small wonder we have a country left, had HRC put on the big headdress, we would have been doomed forever!

Its going to take at least as long to turn this around, probably twice as long, as it took us to get into this mess!

Story Number: NNS170408-02Release Date: 4/8/2017 5:17:00 PM

The future USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) is underway for its first set of sea trials, known as Builder's Sea Trials (BST). Builder's sea trials provide an opportunity to test systems, components and compartments at sea for the first time.

Over the next several days, CVN 78 Sailors, shipbuilders from Huntington Ingalls Industries - Newport News Shipbuilding (HII-NNS), the Navy's Supervisor of Shipbuilding and Naval Sea Systems Command personnel will be working side-by-side testing many of the ship's key systems and technologies.

"The Navy and our industry partners are excited to have the future USS Gerald R. Ford underway under her own power for the first time, executing a rigorous and comprehensive test program for this first-of-class ship," said Rear Adm. Brian Antonio, program executive officer for aircraft carriers. "This milestone is the culmination of years of hard work and dedication, and we look forward to learning a great deal during sea trials. We will continue to work together to deliver Ford's critical capabilities to the fleet."

Technological marvel and great to see it finally at sea, but my gosh that stern is ugly.

Being a land-lubber I have thought that myself for some time?? I am also fascinated/concerned at the same time with the very small island?? I realize that adds so much more deck space, flexibility, etc, etc.

But what trade-offs do you make, when you sacrifice all that island?

I'm also happy to see rotary wing aircraft on deck!
