I'm confused . I thought that's what a JDAM is. With lil research JDAM can be upgraded and configured for moving target acquisition as well.

What's this new paragon crap? More fleecing of the tax paying public?
JDAM does not hit moving targets.

U.S. defense contractor Lockheed Martin announced that it has branded its Dual Mode Plus laser-guided bomb (LGB) as Paragon.

Paragon has been integrated on the F/A-18 while F-16 test flights are planned for the second quarter of 2017.

In a U.S. Navy test from August 2016, the Dual Mode Plus demonstrated operation of the new linear optics, GPS/Inertial Navigation System (INS) guidance subsystem and the control actuation system. According to Lockheed Martin, all mission objectives were met.

During the tests, two Mk-82 (500-lb.) inert warheads, fitted with Dual Mode Plus guidance kits were released from an F/A-18 Super Hornet and impacted fixed targets within operational performance requirements.

“The new brand Paragon exemplifies a model of excellence, and reflects the system’s performance and capability,” said Joe Serra, precision guided systems director at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. “The Paragon direct attack munition has demonstrated performance well within operational requirements and can be released farther from the target than other dual-mode or GPS-guided weapons.”

Effective against fixed, relocatable and moving targets, the Paragon direct attack munition maintains the physical dimensions, mass properties and outer mold line of Lockheed Martin’s LGB, and integrates with aircraft employing LGBs or similar direct-attack weapons using conventional MIL-STD-1760/1553 or Universal Armament Interfaces.

I understand that's why I specifically said with lil research and fine tuning JDAM technology can most certainly be tweaked and configured to hit moving targets.
There is no need to recreate the wheel and throw bilion$ more into another new type of weapons system.
Trust me, I like new toys as much as the next guy but I will also call out fiscal irresponsibility when I see one. There are other areas that need real R & D.

Well Kwai in this case the Tweeks would be reinventing. The Paragon is an existing system. The Paragon is a modified Paveway II guided bomb.
They added a duel mode seeker to the Paveway kit and rebranded it Paveway Paragon. Because the Paveway II is a joint Raytheon Lockheed Martin product they are doing a bit of synergy.

has become obsolete (compared to the targeting pods already fielded), and F-35 isn't even FOC yet

F-35 firing boosts ASRAAM sales prospects

Lockheed Martin F-35s have fired their first non-US-produced missiles in testing, with the activity providing a boost to MBDA’s sales efforts for the ASRAAM.

Announcing the development on 15 March, MBDA said flight trials and air-launched firings have taken place using test aircraft operating from Edwards AFB, California and NAS Patuxent River, Maryland.

The short-range, infrared-guided ASRAAM is being integrated with the short take-off and vertical landing F-35B variant for the UK. “The effort is progressing to plan, and these integration activities will allow the initial operating capability of the aircraft” for the nation, MBDA says.

The European company hopes that other F-35 customers could opt to acquire its weapon, in preference to the Raytheon AIM-9X. Australia already uses the Mach 3-capable missile on its Boeing F/A-18A/B strike aircraft, and has previously expressed some interest in also using it with its Joint Strike Fighters.

“The fact that it is a real firing that has taken place is important, because that allows the other F-35A and B users to now have a choice,” says Dave Armstrong, MBDA’s executive group director for sales and business development.

Meanwhile, Armstrong says the company remains hopeful that the US military could acquire its Brimstone air-to-surface missile to provide some of its fast jet platforms with an “off-the-shelf” precision strike capability against moving targets, despite the business uncertainty raised by US President Donald Trump’s buy-American agenda.

“We know that the US military still aspires to have Brimstone on [Boeing] F-15 and F-18,” he says. “It’s a question of economics and programme management.”

MBDA on 15 March reported its receipt of new orders worth €4.7 billion ($5 billion) in 2016, against sales totalling €3 billion. This compares with respective figures of €5.2 billion and €2.9 billion in 2015, and chief executive Antoine Bouvier notes that the company’s book-to-bill ratio over the past four years has been 1.6, due to “an exceptional order track record”.

Domestic business in the company's European home nations accounted for €3.2 billion of the orders received last year, says chief financial officer Peter Bols, with business from the UK and France worth €1.6 billion and €1.3 billion, respectively. Exports totalled €1.5 billion, including an initial batch of weapons ordered for the Indian air force’s future fleet of 36 Dassault Rafales.

MBDA’s order backlog at 31 December 2016 stood at €15.9 billion

Paveway Paragon was developed as an alternative to the LJDAM and advertising lists a lower unit and sustainment price as selling points. It's based off the Paveway series of bombs dating back to Vietnam.

Yes, sounds like a direct competitor to the ljdam conversion kit or basically an advance paveway with terminal guidance. Paveway 3 got cancelled because of price tag.. Hopefully LM can deliver them much cheaper than ljdam like on the marketing brochures but I've seen these salesmeny talks b4... But paragon sounds sexier than paveway V I suppose that's why LM has a gargantuan marketing department!

yeah that's what you'll keep saying, with the next software patch, with the block xyz upgrade ... ultimately eventually will be addressed whatever, lasers on board undoubtedly ... but I'll tell you this:
just look at the Raptor, FOC declared almost ten years ago and how many upgrades has it gotten since then, and how many upgrades have been promised (and are turning into vaporware) ... yeah you may tell me F-35 isn't F-22 but I'm predicting it'll get even WORSE with F-35s than with F-22s due to the shear numbers ... for example I won't hold my breath until 472 of these (I mean just from LRIP copies):

will be swapped for something corresponding to 2010s level

Right now F22A is on block 29, With Block 30 coming next year.
yes they toned back a number due to budget and Software but they have not been sitting ideal Most of the upgrades happen unnoticed because they work smoothly. Historically all military projects start out rough that is why they are taken so methodically You cannot seriously expect a perfect program The only reason we are not hearing about technical issues with the Pak-Fa and J20 is because the Russians and Chinese keep their programs closed door. The US is open door and every Journalist thinks every glitch is a program killer.
