JF-17/FC-1 Fighter Aircraft thread

I have to disagree with that. JF-17 or other programs like it would not be obsolete for another 20 years. Though the pace of technology is fast, the rise in complexity and costs is also very fast. Therefore I do not see 4th generation fighters going obsolete any time soon. 5th generation platforms, or UCAV will likely not replace all fighter jets for the next 2 decades at least.

Any nation that chases a strategy of having an all-5th generation fleet would be doing a great dis-service to its people. It would be height of fiscal irresponsibility.

For 4th block of JF-17, I consider frontal RCS reduction & a different and higher TWR engine a distinct possibility.
One important thing is 5th gen fighters only carry a fraction of ammunition of their 4th counterparts. So 5th gen would carry out mission in highly dangerous airspace or act as to clear the way and 4th gen would do the rest of the jobs. The US Air Force doesn't need F-22 or F-35 to bomb ISIS!

Amazing how this is happening for real at last!

If it wasn't for the Indian pressure to cut trade and aid deals with Sri Lanka they would have ordered those 12 x JF17

This deal was almost a done deal

However Cameron, Myanmar and Azerbaijan almost another half dozen are in talks

After Nigeria the PAC gets its first reference which is always is the most difficult after this more deals will follow

With the basic trainer, advanced trainer and fighter aircraft covered by Super Mushshak, K-8 and JF17 / JF17B the future looks very promising

None of this would be possible without our Chinese friends who have given PAC so much tooling to build up a aviation facility and aeronautics centre which employs 1,000s

JF17 updates

Twin seater JF17 is in final assembly almost complete maiden flight is due in first 1/4 of 2017

It's designed to target export market but also good for PAF

another bumper year for production next year will complete Block II production to mark 100th JF17 ceremony is planned

Block III will use Russian engine, actually it's because PAC wants to and not because Chinese one is not ready

PAC is busy with production and switching engines will put extra burden on PAC facility's who will have to rewrite maintenance manuals etc and retooling for a different engine

They are happy with Russian engine and better solution is to work with Russia to improve current Powerplant rather than changing over to a new one

The first Nigerian units will be delivered in 2017 they are coming from China the order is more than original 3 units

Second export customer is also done details not confirmed

The JF17 is a flexible programme things are always changing there are no set numbers or blocks the beauty is the platform is designed to with future requirements in mind
