Since we are talking only one driver, the device is either a J-10A fighter of the 24th division of the army of the Chinese air, or J-10AY the aerobatic team "1 August ".

According to preliminary informal information, the crash was caused by stopping the engine AL-31FN after having ingested a bird.

The location of the crash is less than 6km from the Yangcun air base, and the axis of the tracks suggests that the J-10A would collided with birds shortly after takeoff. The single reactor unit does not therefore have neither the speed nor the altitude needed to turn around and land at the base.

Note that this is the second crash of J-10 in 2016, the first held in the month of May where a J-10AH Chinese navy crashed in Taizhou, on the east coast of China . The crash of September 28 is the 17th incident since the entry into service of the J-10 in 2005.

Despite multiple measures against bird hazard, Bruno explained in three very detailed articles, the bird strike still represents nearly a quarter of the origin of accidents, but the failures of the engine AL-31FN remain the main cause of crashes or serious incidents.

Captain
They used WS10 on the last two J10B then switched back to AL31 on J10C? Strange

Probably not a switch. From what we know, J-10B/J-10C were always going to have AL-31FN Series 3. There are only 2x J-10B with WS-10B in the PLAAF. We haven't seen any additional J-10 powered by WS-10B entering the PLAAF. So those 2x J-10B are probably test vehicles for the PLAAF. CAC doesn't appear to be in hurry to adopt WS-10 series engines. Even J-20 use AL-31FN Series 3. Will have to wait and see whether CAC will use any WS-10 variants for the J-20 before the WS-15 comes into play.
