Alot tougher to interfere in Paracel islands; they are far away from busy trade route and they have natually formed islands with real inhabitants since 1974.
The paracel island chain is 230 miles from vietnam almost equi-distance from Hainan. So, EEZ 200 miles UNCLOS from Vietnam can also be throwing out the window.
The only one left is FON but unlikely spratley, there's 12 miles limit due to naturally formed island.
anyhow, PLAN is ramping up and paracel will be a major naval base , possibly able to host a carrier group there. China already said it won't have major militerization in Spratley man-made island but it's banking on enhanced Paracel to a major reimforcement point for Spratley.

Tidalwave, it's the 2016 Presidential election in the US, and if it's like any other election, demagogues will craw out of caves and from under rocks to rue the poorly informed public. It's not primarily racial, although there may be some of that for the unenlightened, the reason being China is the only great power left on God's green acres that has the intention and capability to challenge American primacy in Asia.
There are debates in the West between containing China and accommodating it, and proponents of hard containment are winning. It remains to be seen if another Ronald Reagan can come along and lead the West in a different direction, but for now, I expect lots of shouting, saber rattling, and even some confrontations. Hopefully, all sides will do their best to avoid conflicts.

well if these clowns don't continue their anti china charade it would be too boring for us because we are just too used to it! it will come out at the next Shangri La dialogue in Singapore, that place has turned into an anti china gong show.
btw i really like that name ''Zhao shudao'' for that island. it literally means ''planting tree island''

Lots of activities are happening in the Paracel Islands. China doesn't muck around, they plan and then do it. Hats off to China!
This is an earlier picture of Xisha Zhou (West Sand) Island. I am not sure of its date though.
Can't see too many trees on the white sand compare to the pic above. I think it has grown in size too!
This pic reminds me of one of those toy train tracks that the toy train goes round and round.
