I think they will have a different storyline this time. One that makes them qualified to sustain up to 5 Gs in the cockpit. You don't need much Gs with today's BVR technology or strike missions. I can't imagine them taking on cameo roles as mentors to a younger team.

I wish they could do a "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" style dark humor parody of the original. At least that'll be interesting.

It's definitely going to be about drones. So you know the story is going to be something like drones are taking over and pilots are seen as no longer needed. Maverick will of course not like that. It'll be a contest of pilot vs. drone. Drone beats pilot until a real world situation happens where Maverick proves the military still needs manned pilots in the cockpit in the end.

I covered before that Tom Cruise and any of the actors form the original film are past their prime. If the Writers have any brains they would at the dramatic commander level. Best Case would have Mav and Ice man acting as instructors to a new gen.

The sequel could have them coming out of retirement in a mercenary role and then all options are on the table. That was how Segal and Stallaone made themselves bankable.
