Puma is perhaps the best defended IFV on the planet without using a Tank hull. the only complaints I have about it are the 6 man infantry it carries and the 5.56mm coax. I mean sure most IFV's really only carry 6 infantry but a 9 man force seems optimum and I see no reason why a IFV should carry less. add mounting a proper 7.62mm or a daring 12.7mm coax I would consider it perfection.

I think the original idea for mounting the MG-4 was to allow ammo commonality with the individual soldier weapon so they can live off the same pool. Seems kind of stupid, really. There should be enough place to store a few hundred rounds of extra 5,56 for the dismounts and have 1.000+ rounds of 7,62 for the coax. Which would then be strong enough to knock down a mud wall at least.
Because again, the original idea of using the main gun for anything the 5,56 can't do seems a little short sighted, as that would really stress the precious 30mm stock.

A .50 coax is a nice idea I think, heavy enough to properly suppress and knock down stuff, without having to resort to the main weapon. But going from 7,62 to 12,7 would probably really eat into the storage capacity.
I wonder if a remote .50 (or 40mm GMG) could be added to the side of the turret in place of the Spike ATGM system when that is not needed. Would also do pretty well I imagine.

BMD-4m represents the latest of the Russian Airborne's fighting vehicles it uses the same turret as the BMP3 meaning a 100mm Cannon with 30mm coax with a 7.62x54mm Mg and a 5.45mm Mg and a 40mm Grenade launcher and a 9M113 Konkurs launcher because

!! seriously I swear the designer of this and the BMP3 had his 10 year old standing next to him yelling for more gunz. it has a 3 man crew and a tiny 5 man troop it's about

It's amphibious and designed to be air dropped. it has a APC variant and there was a Dakka... I mean Tank killer version but it was dropped because of fire issues.

BMP/BMD version mainly with 30/100 mm gun are good AIFV, powerful etc... for VDV light essential !
But much less shielded as especialy last Western AIFV the shield is effective against about max 12.7 mm the best Western against 30 mm, for frontal armor the more big ofc, without being too precise to give an idea.
