If this is one of those isolated villages that got totally cut off from the outside, then their reactions is totally understandable, especially when aid finally get distributed to those areas a week after Haiyan struck the region - think about those poor souls have to go by with what little supplies Haiyan didn't swept away, and whatever basic utilities they once have now gone.

By the news accounts, the Philippine army and local authorities have their bulk of manpower tied down just to maintain public order wherever possible for them, so the bulk of rescue, aid distribution, utility restoration and medical work will have to rely on foreign aids, such as helicopter units from the USS Washington battle group, and RSAF C-130H to ferry in relief supplies currently stockpiling at Manila airport.

Also, by current projection it'll take about 3 months to restore power supply to pre-Haiyan level, right now street lighting are gradually coming back. A small relief but you got to start from somewhere. Think portable diesel generator will be a valuable item for the region for some time...solar panels can augment the demand but not that useful in a nation that gets lots of rain annually.

That bird had to be from the George Washington; word is she emptied off her hornets and super hornets and is loaded up with Osprey, Sea hawks, Knight hawks, Marines and aid she likely retained her Greyhounds and possibility her Hawkeyes to help out.

Yes, that helo is definitely from the George Washington. You can see the HSM-77 marking right there on it's side.

Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 77 is the "Saberhawks" squadron and they do in fact fly off of the USS George Washington.

Par for the course for the USN.

Er... one really silly question here... If you give these survivors something that needed to be cooked before you can eat it like rice, can they or have they got the necessary equipment to cook them? if not... isn't things like biscuits being a more sensible choice. Just asking.

Okay let me try here.
in the case of US supplied refugee rations (theses are basicly modified MREs) it comes with a special heater bag that heats up with a small amount of water. But those rations are issued only under specific conditions those seen in the chopper pictures might have gotten them. In the case of conditions of a more easily accessible location well I know american aid packaging usually has some instructions to make very very basic prep, for example rice can be prepared by wrapping it in cloth and burring it under a camp fire its a Ninja trick for dinner!
corn meal made into a crude pan cake bread. Aid packages very but some basic equipment is always issued
Fire is a basic and its assumed that you can make one, I mean its a very basic stone age survival skill. I think most offer a package of waterproof matches.

I remember that during Operation Eagle Pull and Frequent Wind Hancock off loaded her entire airwing and became an LPH.

Now in the case of GW I bet she still has a few Hornets for Cap .. a couple of E-2cs. And here's a photo of her launching a C-2 Greyhound.

If you look at this photo below in hi-res you can see a land mass in the background.

Also included in the AID are camping type stoves and grilles to prepare food. I'm pretty sure..if not, I can guarantee you those Filipinos can build a fire to prepare the meals.
