Yes, i agree...the new style pennant numbers look a lot better..........the old big black numbers looked like they were transfers that had been applied, just like on models!

Ok things getting interesting with the Type 054A production, if that is indeed unit 18 that means 5 Flotillas will be completed with 4 units each if we add in the 525 and 526

Now I don't think the two Type 054 will be retired any time soon and unless they have found a export customer they will continue to serve PLAN

So now the question is, will we see a 19th unit? If we do the run will then likely go to 20 units of even 22 units, if it stops then we could see a Type 054B emerge this year, or it could simply be the the units 17 and 18 are in fact the new Type 054B

If a 6th Flotilla is established with 4 units of Type 054A/B I wonder who will get it, NSF might be the candidate

Looking even further, if PLAN establsihes 2 Flotillas of FFGs, 1 -2 Flotillas of DDGs and possible 1 Flotilla of Cruiser in each of its fleets then we are looking at 16-20 surface combatants in each fleet

That would mean in terms of overall tonnage each fleet of will have in excess of 150,000 tons of modern surface vessels in little over 20 years, that's almost half a million tons of warships which doesnt include carriers, amphibious ships of auxillarys

Simply one hell of a navy!!
