Then I hope the Americans won't be surprised when those Stingers end up in Afganistan.

Look at today's Egypt aka the next Shariah state! I wonder why are those Western human rights group keeping their mouth shut now that Egyptian women could literally become men's sex slaves. Every single Iraqi I have had the pleasure of meeting in Canada said that they much preferred Saddam regime's stability to the current Iraqi administration.

Once Assad's regime falls, we all know Syria is pretty much guaranteed to become another one of those cluster fvcks. The West has accomplished nothing but to destabilize the Middle East so far.

I'm less concerned that some of those Stingers are going to end up in Afghanistan but rather i'm more concerned that some of those stingers may end up here in Europe. Militants can use these Stingers to shoot down passenger jets. I know it sounds like right wing neo-con scaremongering trash talk, but it could happen. And do we know if what the rebels are using are Stingers ? And if so, where did they get those Stingers ? CIA ? Turkey ? We just don't learn its the same story from Afghanistan in the 1980's to Libya in 2011 we back people that we don't know who they are or what their intentions are or what their abilities are to run a country. But we back them because for what ever reason we don't like the other guy rather its Khadaffi, Saddam Hussein or the Soviet Union. The enemy of my enemy is my friend that is what we live by. But most of the times things are not that simple and we get burned over and over again. The Afghan Mujahideens where the good guys, that is untill one of their former member flew a few airplanes into buildings in America. The Libyan rebels where the good guys that is untill some of their former fighters set fire to a US consulate and killed the US ambassador there. And Syria is going to be another disaster because our leaders are dealing with the salon revolutionaries with suits and ties in Turkish hotel lobbies but we know very little about the people on the ground doing the real fighting and it is those people that is going to become the real power in Syria if and when al-Assad should fall. Not the salon revolutionaries with the suits and ties.

Egypt won't become a sharia state where women will become sex slaves i think that it will be more like Turkey under the current government of the Justice and Development Party. Because the military that is still very powerful, the people of Egypt and America won't stand for it.

It is more than likely that the rebels have gotten their hands on Syrian Army caches of weapons, and have become more competent in the use and employment of such weapons:

The Rebels' Improved Air Defense Capability

Isolated and surrounded, regime forces in the north are increasingly relying on air support for both defense and supply. However, this advantage is deteriorating every day and is increasingly threatened by the rebels' improved air defense arsenal and tactics.

The rebels first attempted to acquire air defense weaponry by seizing heavy machine guns and anti-aircraft artillery. They captured a number of air defense bases, taking 12.7 mm DShK heavy machine guns, 14.5 mm KPV heavy machine guns and even 23 mm ZU-23-2 autocannons. Over time, the rebels became more proficient with these weapons, and an increasing number of Syrian air force fixed-wing and rotary aircraft were shot down. The rebels also formed hunter-killer groups with air defense equipment mounted on flatbed trucks that provided them mobile platforms for targeting regime air and infantry units.

As more and more regime bases were taken, the rebels were able to bolster their air defense equipment through the capture of a number of man-portable air-defense systems. At the outset of the conflict, the Syrian military maintained a large inventory of shoulder-fired air-defense missiles, likely thousands of missiles ranging from early generation SA-7s to very advanced SA-24s. These missiles were stored in army bases across the country. There are also unconfirmed reports that Qatar and Saudi Arabia may have transferred some man-portable air-defense systems to the rebels through Turkey.

The rebels tallied their first confirmed kill with shoulder-fired air-defense missiles Nov. 27, when they shot down a Syrian Arab Air Force Mi-8/17 helicopter near Aleppo city. The weapon system used in the attack was likely an SA-7, SA-16 or SA-24 captured from the 46th regiment. The surface-to-air missiles are a serious upgrade in the rebels' air defense capability.

yes this could also be true, Syria did take delivery of a few hundred Igla shoulder fired SAMs from Russia, however i dont think they came with the portable kits they were from launching from platforms like APCs and Jeeps etc but i may be wrong

but also i dont think Syrian military let rebels get hold of Iglas so easily because they are state of the art missiles held only by high ranks of the Syrian military but again we cant rule out the possibility

but Igla is hard to use and does need training, whereas Stinger is a great easy weapon to use, right now its cold and winter, against the cold background a older Soviet/Russian helo will sit out like a swore thumb and be easy prey for heat seeking missiles

either way rebels do have shoulder launched SAMs question is how many

Well this would not be the first time

Recent US blunders and “democratisation” of the Middle East has played right into the hands of the Iranians

US has been doing Iran favours ever since 9/11, first they removed the Taliban which was Irans number 1 enemy, in 1998 Iran almost went to war with the Taliban it was only after Pakistan mediated talks with the Iranians did the Iranians back down

They then in 2003 got rid of Saddam who was Irans number 2 enemy and now we have a Iraqi government which is allied itself to Iran

Then we have Hamas, a democratically elected government by the Palestinians who are pro-Iran and Hezbollah too who are close to Iran

Right now Iran has everything going for it, no wonder they even refuse to sit on a table and talk peace, why should they, they are in the driving seat, the arrogance and mischief making is on a rise and so it should be since they have all their top enemy’s taken care off and can pull all sorts of strings in the middle east

They have sent ships throw the Suez, visited ports in Sudan and also hold Western Yemen using proxy’s

So a few stingers ending up in Afghanistan is hardly a world changing event, when even they can get Anzas from the ISI, my point really is, who cares where they end up, it didn’t stop Western country’s backing anti-Gaddaffi rebels, or maybe it was the 37,000 Chinese workers that had the Western nations scared?

The world we live in today is sooooooo different to just 10 years ago, things are changing fast got to keep up

Syria Uses Scud Missiles in New Effort to Push Back Rebels
By MICHAEL R. GORDON and ERIC SCHMITT
The Syrian leadership may be calculating that it can resort to such lethal arms without fear of intervention partly because Washington has set its "red line" at the use of chemical weapons.
The Scud is an antique liquid fueled rocket, from the time of the Il-28 bomber, but so much effort has Western propaganda invested in them over the last quarter of a century that we are supposed to shudder in our arm chairs by the thought of Al Qaeda people being attacked with these things.

One of Scuds real dangers is the fact that it has a hypergolic fuel. Not a solid rocket propellent. Hypergolics are very, very corrosive, toxic and also a carcinogenic. which is an added danger if the missile hits its target with unexpended fuel.

When I was an ordnance man 40 years go the USN still was using AQM-34 as target drones. They had hypergolic fuel. Very dangerous. they've all been disposed of back in '77. We fired the last ones at NAS Cubi PT RP in 1977.

It's an open secret that since the withdrawal of Soviet forces from Eastern Europe these regions are well supplied with armaments that are safely hidden away or used for mundande non-military tasks. The IR-sighting equipment of tanks is very popular among hunters for example. One stinger more or less makes no difference.
As of today, Egyptian women are entitled to vote and it would be the unwisest choice for any outside power to intervene in any manner than a mediation.
In a revolution, things are always very fluid. Let's wait and see, the hotheads want to stirr the course by stagging newsworthy events. One man biting a dog is more news than a thousand dogs biting men.
The issue about the regime changes was to kill each and every regime that was aligned with the wrong superpower to serve as a lesson for the next clash of superpowers.

A rebellion with outside support doesn't need to capture anything, they can receive weapons via bribery as well as from foreign sources, including Russian systems from Russian opponents. This situation is open for too much fraud in the news someone receives thousands of kilometers away.

The story about the Scud missile attacks are bogus. The story did not eminate from inside Syria itself but came from "anonymous sources" from with in the US government. You think that if Scud missile's where used that the Syrian rebels will be the first ones to call the attention of the world to this fact and not some guy in the US government.

Here is a nice rebuttal of this story from the Moon of Alabama blog.

Obama Issues Scud Propaganda For War On Syria

Michael Gordon, famous for writing Iraq WMD scare stories together with Judith Miller, is again willingly distributing administration scare stories and to promote a new war: Syria Fires Scud Missiles at Insurgents, U.S. Says

Syrian forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad have fired Scud missiles at rebel fighters in recent days, Obama administration officials said on Wednesday.
...
One American official, who asked not to be identified because he was discussing classified information, said that missiles had been fired from the Damascus area at targets in northern Syria.

“The total is number is probably north of six now,” said another American official, and that the targets were in areas controlled by the Free Syrian Army, the main armed insurgent group.

I call that bullshit. There have been no reports on Scud impacts from the terrorists fighting the Syrian government and people. Martin Chulov, who currently reports for the Guardian from northern Syria, tweeted:

No word of this in the north: US says #Syria Fires Scud Missiles at Insurgents #news

Are we to believe that the Syrian government uses Scuds against the terrorists without any casualties being reported and without even one rumors on the ground over such alleged shooting and their impacts?

Like with the false WMD scare over Iraq and recent false chemical weapon mixing claims in Syria the British government is joined at the hip with the U.S government and propagandist Michael Gordon in distributing this scam:

British officals said intelligence reports indicated that the regime first fired a Scud missile on Monday and the firing has continued.

This is just more nonsense from those who want to get NATO to fight a regime-change war against Syria.

Some 70 bribed and pressed nations, the "enemies of Syria", are currently meeting in Marrakesh and the U.S. wants them to recognize the sectarian Muslim Brotherhood exiles it has organized as a Syrian opposition and to pay up for the continuation of the terror operation against the Syrian people.

Also today the German parliament discusses the stationing of Patriot missiles in Turkey. The final vote will be Friday. What better way to influence that than claiming that Syria shot off some missiles.

There is also bad news for the U.S. plans that this propaganda may cover up. A huge car bomb went off in front of the Syrian interior ministry again confirming that the Syrian government is indeed fighting against terrorists. This while the U.S. created puppet exiles group demanded that the U.S. designation of Jabhat al Nusra as a terrorist group be taken back:

The leader of the National Coalition, cleric Moaz al-Khatib, also criticised a US decision to put an Islamist militia active in Syria on its list of banned terrorist organisations.

Doesn't make that demand the "National Coalition" supporter of terrorists?

Lets hope that no one falls for Obama's obvious Scud propaganda.

In light of the recent scud threats Turkey has now installed Patriot III missiles, as Turkey is a NATO member its been deployed these systems by the Germans and Americans

If Syria makes the big mistake of attacking Syria the situation will get very dire for the Syrian regime

Never the less its a wellcome addition to have these systems in place to intercept any incoming missiles from Syria

This is rubbish. Turkey is supporting the insurgency in Syria, but to suppose Syria will retaliate by attacking Turkey is as daft as supposing that Mexico will retaliate for the supply of firearms to its gangsters from the US by bombing Las Vegas.
And why the concern about those antique Scuds? They are just one generation more modern than the V-2.
