Since you sidestepped my original question let me ask you the question this way: Do you think China can overtake those aircraft manufactures who currently hold a sizable lead of Chinese aerospace?

And if your answer is yes then how can China do it?
Why should it be impossible for China to overtake those aircraft manufacturers? The next question is "When?" and then the answer is "I don't know". But remember the Lexington class flattops of the early '20's still used steam turbine electric propulsion because US industry was not able to produce the gears between the steam turbines and the propeller shafts. Did that signify that the US would be unable to overhaul the UK?

As for "How" the answer is by diligent work.

I love how some think the Chinese government has to report to them personally or whatever is not legitimate. It's like the saying if a tree falls in the forest, does it make a sound? Like a tree can only fall when they're around to hear it?

That wouldn't be good enough. Anything official would only be propaganda

Speculating doesn't necessarily make me a troll. Just doubting the legitimacy of this new aircraft makes me a troll and a China hater? Remember when J20 came out? I don't think there was any gaps. There were literally pictures coming out everyday.

Yes but Chengdu-Huangtianba is much more accessable in comparison to Shenyang-Beiling. Just remember how spares images and imformation became available (sadly !) on the J-11/J-15 and J-16 ... that in fact has been flying around since October last year and we only got an image a few weeks ago.

I know this post will not be too popular in this forum, but I found a need to say it anyway. True, we are seeing quite a bit of technology innovation or breakthrough from the Chinese these recent years... the creation of the J-20, J-31/J-21/F-60, J-10A/ 10B, J-11B etc. However I still believe that engines are one of the areas that the Chinese are still not quite on par with the West (they might be catching up though).

As to talks of China overtaking US or many of the European countries in term of technology... well... in my opinion, the Chinese are still not there yet. They might or they might not be better than the US and European countries are still a question mark, we did see great GDP in recent years (except now due to financial crisis that had also affect China). Maybe in a few more decades could China actually reach what the US was now or in future.

We are proud of what China had achieved in this period of time, but let pride not blind us from the fact that China still had some distance to cover.

Don't sweat it. Realists will completely agree with you. China has come a long way, but has a long way to go.

What gets us (or me, since I can't speak for anyone else) riled up is how certain people insinuate that China cannot do this or that, because of innate characteristics of Chinese-ism. Basically, racism.

Also amusing is the clear straw-grasping that some people do in the face of evidence for Chinese progress. This is rather pathetic and actually hilarious to watch in action.

But, taking a step back, both of these phenomenon are good. The less they understand, the more complacent they are. What would be far more frightening is clear-eyed and sober analysis of Chinese capabilities and trends. Hence I am surprised that sites like this one is not under constant attack by red hackers.
