071 LPD thread

re: PLAN Type 071 LPD & its Landing Craft

So global security is talking rubbish. I still remember before 071 LPD commission, people question it saying it can't flood compartment to allow LCAC to move in and out.

Seriously , people who say 071 can't house helo and can't do this and that. Shall go get a life. We are not talking about some special thing LPD is going to perform. All those are just the basic of what a LPD shall do.

Most sources outside the Chinese domains ain't that accurate, and many haven't been regularly updated as well. If account to Chinese explosive leaps over the decade that's not surprising.

If we look at the 071 LPD, there we have 2 problems:
1. When compare with other's LPDs, barring RSN'S Endurance class, 071 is rather small
2. It doesn't arrive with the full package( the LCAC in particular)

With such an incomplete package, long delay till the serial production began last year, the LCAC disappeared for so long until late last year, and an apparent sidelined treatment to large helicopters, it gives room for nay-sayers to call the LCAC. just a fluke, lacks all the said capacities to make it worth it's bacon... though of course it's just the PLAN takes time to put the full set into place.

Bro, it's a English website. Not a Chinese, some chinese website brag how advance china new warship is going to be. Why didn't global security take info from them indicating how advance china warship is going to be. Instead pick those rubbish website which indicate there is no capacity for helo? What a joke!

Again, you are another stereotyper who didn't do your homework before sprouting rubbish. 071 is rather small? It's even bigger than Rotterdam class LPD. Check wiki for more info of other countries LPD before you speak again.

Most project likely to have delay but when Chinese military project has delay, people jump on it and claim Chinese incompentent and make something don't have this or that. 071 had long ago announce what's it going to have. They even make a scale model to indicate the LCAC and how many LCAC can house in 071.

But when western project get delay. The media will keep defending how capable it's going to be Once completed and put aside delay. Brainwashing everybody... Can you see the ironic?

AFAIK, Type 071 is the largest LPD outside the US Navy. Much bigger than anything the USSR made.

Actually, in addition to the US San Antonio Class LPD, the UKs Albion Class LPD is also larger than the Yuzhao.

The San Anotnio is 25,000, the Albion is 21,000 and the Yuzhao is 19,0000.

Here are some pics of the lbion class:

Here's a list of most of the world's LPDs and their displacements (full load):

San Antonio - 25,000 US
Albion -------- 21,000 UK
Yuzhao ------- 19,000 CH
Austin -------- 17,000 US
Rotterdam ---- 16,800 Dutch
Jilashwa ------ 16,500 India
Gilacia -------- 14,000 Italy
Osumi -------- 14,000 Japan
Fourde -------- 12,000 France
Endurance ------ 8,500 Singapore

These capabilities takes time to build, especially if it is being done for the 1st time. It it better for the PLAN to take their time and get it right, than to rush head long into it and only realise later that it may not be what they want.

Regarding the PLAN's LCAC, it is a bit of a breakthrough as not many countries are capable of building LCACs of that size in the 1st place.

If globalsecurity.org is what you're talking about, it's probably due to a lack of resources I assume... even for us native Chinese speakers it's still tough work to distill out useable info from what's essentially a mountain of slender, wet dream and morning wood, if you haven't yet include self-censorship ...not always you could find people do that for you free of charge.

As for the differential treatment by the media, that's PR at work, period.

It's Spanish half sisters Galicia and Castilla have a displacement of 13,000 (or 13,900?) tons.
It's British near relations, the Bay class, have displacements of 16,160 tons

I wonder why until now we only see one LCAC. Could PLAN be unsastified with the craft?

Most popular reason that brought forth is engine...see, China isn't stranger to air-cushioned crafts, but building one this big is.

I dont think China has any LCAC problem... By the way, we don't expect to see 071 loaded with full LCAC, going around. Unless it going to invade someone....

China has no reason to show us all 4 LCAC lurking around the 071 to show its full force, right?
