Osama Bin Laden has been killed

I would like to inject some thoughts of mine...

I highly suspect this is simply a psych-ops... First no pics, then in a jiffy claims that they dumped the body into the sea within a few hours, and finally claims they done a DNA test on him. DNA test takes 48 hours at best and where in the vicinity is there a DNA facility ?

Ozama had to be on a dialysis, known since 9/11, was it present in that raided house ? I am surprised he lasted this long, since from Afghanistan mountain liar. This is he's second death, if I am not wrong.

Finally, the circulating pics appeared in 2010.

I really hoped Ozama is that bustard that done 9(11, and justice is meted out, But as long as WTC7 is not properly investigated and explanations be easily satisfied by even a engineering/architectural undergraduate. I'm still holding on to my sympathy card.

Let's stay away from the 9/11 conspiracy theories please.

Bravo Zulu a job well done.
Amen to that Popeye. And though I am not at all a fan of Obama and think he is very bad for the US, I will give him credit for making this call and giving the go order. It was a gutsy call sending those two teams into Pakistan so far. So much could have gone very bad and they would have been out there on their own with very little of any support. But those soldiers did their job, the intel did their job, and they got this man...and they deserve the most credit, of course.

It sends the appropriate message. If you come and attack our nation and kill our citizens like that, no matter how long, no matter how far, no matter who your friends are or where you hide...we will get you, even if it takes ten years.

That's the appropriate message and I am glad it was sent. The apparatus (including Gitmo) that GW put in place made it possible too...but Obama worked with the teams in planning it and then gave the order and he deserves credit for that for sure.

what is a terrorist anyways? before you answer that question, let's agree that whoever fits the definition would be qualify, regardless of your feelings? fair?

my definition is: people who deliberately kill innocent civilians to make a point.

Ok,
how many civilians died in Bomber Harris's fire bombing of Dresden.
Or LeMay's firebombing of Tokyo.
They were trying to make a point you know. the whole premise of strategic bombing was based on killing civilians to make a point.

so how many lives... opps I should use the euphemism of "collateral damage".... does it one qualifies for that definition? in this age of precision strikes weapons and Blackwater security shot up cars full of family and kids?
how many? care to give me a number?

some body gotta ask these question, might as well be me.
The US fought total war in World War II. It was to rid the world of regimes that endangered the entire free world and tens of millions of people in it and was a fight for survival against not just armies, but against ideologies and the people who supported them right down to the civilians.

In that case, the US (with her allies) prosecuted that war and won it and the results of that victory are obvious, particularly compared to what was likely to have happened had either the Nazis or the Imperial Japanese (or both) won. Most of the German people and most of the Japanese people wholly supported their leaders in that war...so the question of innocence becomes somewhat more blurred if you want to try and define it that way. Bottom line was, the ideologies were irreconcilable and one or the other was going to abjectly destroy the other.

I am glad the US and her allies prevailed.

We are not fighting that kind of war now. There are those who believe we should in order to really win it for the long term. But there is clearly not a large enough majority to make that happen...however, one successful nuclear or bio attack that kills hundreds of thousands would probably change all of that.

But, all of that aside, Osama bin Laden openly stated his aims of killing Americans, soldiers, women, children, it did not matter, and then he went about doing it. After 911 America really woke up to him and Al Quida and vowed to take him down and made a mission of it. Well, now...MISSION ACCOMPLISHED as far as Osama Bin Laden is concerned and I believe we are all better for it. But the fight is far from over.

If the government made up the whole thing, why have it all take place in such manner that it is causing problems in our relationship with Pakistan? They could have had it all take place in the tribal areas, or in Afghanistan or something. Instead they placed it right where the Pakistani government will be embarrassed. If he's wasn't there then the Pakistani government now has a reason to prove it to clear their name. And they're in a position to know. Furthermore why hasn't the real Osama come out with a tape saying "Hey yo I'm still alive". Or if he died years ago I'd think that the Al Qaeda members in a position to know would try to tell the real story to catch the Great Satan in a Great Lie.

I will agree with you on one thing though. I don't take Obama at his word. I'd like to see a bunch of pics and videos of his body, and of the raid (we probably won't see the latter for a long time, if ever). I'd also like to see his DNA samples released to various scientists around the world for analysis.

Anyway this is pretty much how I feel:

There were terrorist bombings over a century before 9/11, there will be over a century after. We no longer need to base US foreign/security policy around the Al Qaeda threat.

Also Jon Stewart pretty much sums it up:
The face of the Arab world in America's eyes for too long has been bin Laden, and now it is not. Now the face is only the young people in Egypt and Tunisia and all the Middle Eastern countries around the world where freedom rises up. Al Qaeda's opportunity is gone.

I don't understand why some people here are arguing in favor of Osama Bin Laden. The world opinion is almost unanimous - this man is a great evil to the world and must be stopped. I'm glad that he got shot.

Like you and many others I find the whole official story of Bin Laden highly questionable. It is however one thing to say that the official story is unconvincing and quite another to say that you know what the truth is. Unfortunately if you are out the loop you have not a hope of being able to follow all the twists and turns that map out the truth.

If I had to hazard a guess, based on the geopolitical facts, given his membership of the Saudi Elite, being Western educated and well travelled and the notion that actions speak louder than words, that he was: at least in the beginning, a Saudi Security or Intelligence operative, primarily involved in promoting the substantial Saudi interests and investments in Pakistan and on into Afghanistan to bolster Wahibbism and contain Saudi's main rival for the leadership of the Islamic world, revolutionary Iran.

I also note that his activities do not fit that of a true classic terrorist, but rather of a covert operative involved in clandestine operations. A true terrorist would be more concerned with over throwing the Saudi Establishment and setting up a new oil and cash rich state with which to fund Jihad through the Islamic world. He did no such things. I also note that he seems to have no ideological differences with the rest of the Saudi elite. The Mosques and Madrassas in Pakistan that produced the Taliban are mainstream in Saudi society and have always been funded by Riyadh. Bin Laden was very comfortable in the company of the Taliban.

For a long time Saudi and US interests have coincided in Central Asia and just as the actions of Bin Laden conveniently allowed the US/Nato mission in, his official death, conveniently gives the green light for the planned draw down of US and British personnel as long announced in advanced by Washington and London.

Bin Laden had long become an almost pantomime villain character and just as people used this phantom menace for their own purposes while he was officially alive, I am equally confident that they will continue to use it now he is officially dead.

Some folks like to argue no matter what..and I too am relieved that OBL is no longer among the living.

I will agree with you on one thing though. I don't take Obama at his word.

You should.. there are about 4700 witnesses to the fact OBL is dead. 4500 on CVN-70.

I'd like to see a bunch of pics and videos of his body, and of the raid (we probably won't see the latter for a long time, if ever). I'd also like to see his DNA samples released to various scientists around the world for analysis.

I feel sorry for you guys always looking for anything wrong. A conspiracy under every rock. Personally I believe was President Obama stated about the death of OBL. And I like my patriot friend Jeff Head am no fan of Pres. Obama. But this time he made the right call. And he gave us enough information about how OBL death came about. I think he handled the situation well.

Osama Bin Laden is dead. Period. Praise God in heaven. Amen.

So we can only celebrate the death of Osama Bin Laden, but we can not lament on this occasion on the death of other human beings in History that brings context and perspective?

How is reflection on historical facts political? which of my point is political?

Jeff brought up an execellent point, US went to total war with Germany and Japan because they were ideologically "anti-free", in essence mono-cultures where only one version of history and one version of world view is tolerated. And to let them dominate the world via force is un-thinkable.

I can not help but to be amused that this air of intolerance of any other expression other than monotonous joy for the death of my enemy prevails on this momentous occasion.

Yeah I don't believe in conspiracy theories at this point either, I think that he is dead and was killed in the raid like they said. But I also think that the beneficial strategic impact of his death will be seriously harmed if they allow people to go on believing that it's all a conspiracy, and personally I don't think that the case is totally closed until there's public images of the body etc.

Whoever was giving the oky doky to the news release, should get the story right, otherwise it does give rise to conspiracy theories, as earlier reports left one with the impression that he died in a shootout.

"Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden was unarmed when he was killed by US troops on Sunday after resisting capture, the White House has said."

So he was unarmed but resisting. Surely I squad of elite soldiers were more than capable in restraining a weak/ ill middle aged man without having to kill him?
