I think as long the tanks are not blow up they can rebuild everything.
Even if they manage to take it after taking thousands losses, the Iranians will not let them resupply nor food or water, they will die there.
What I'm saying is, I think the Iranians probably know the places that US may want to use ground troops and they may have set traps to cause as much US soldier deaths as possible because they want to cause a large politically costly amount of US soldier deaths.
If there is a marine force coming, based on what was discussed in hebrew tv few days ago there could be 3 choices.
1) The nuclear material, establish temp air superiority in some area, deploy troops to retrieve, seems crazy.
2) Kharg island but that seems very....death zones, so they get there and do what next? getting Kharg doesnt open the Strait
3) Their biggest main concern right now is opening the strait
because even with the News that US is gonna allow Russia oil, oil still in 90-100 range.
Meanwhile apparently US treasury is secretly doing this:
So they REALLY want the strait to open up, so the obvious location should be this place, near the chokehold.
It could be that they launch some sort of assault whether by amphib or airdrop and try to secure port Bandar-Abbas that small region, after that get closer with naval ships etc providing anti-ballistic help and heli's /planes for drone coverage.
Just speculating here.

The problem I see with this is that merchant ships are being blown up within the Persian Gulf and even a few in Gulf of Oman. The drones and ashm are also located outside of strait
Just holding the strait doesn't do much. And also demining the strait under combat is very dangerous especially the LCS is barely proven as an anti mine ship.
That said, is not like my idea of Kharg island assault is that good either. It just really goes to show how effed up US is. 5k men isnt going to do much.
What do you think the word "secure" mean exactly? Do you think Iran will hit CSGs but won't kill a few guys on the beach?
Probably a survey boat with commercial offboard engines. Too light, quiet and fast for a submarine. RCS too low for aircraft. If it was a few guys with a laser rangefinder, Beidou and radio, yeah, they could've been scouting. Otherwise, maybe a drone boat, also recon.
To actually get 5000 men to Kharg, they need the LHD to pass the Strait of Hormuz. That is probably not going to happen. Otherwise they'll be limited to air assault.
So the MEU being used for this job is being pulled from Japan, of all places?
