WASHINGTON, Feb 9 (Reuters) - U.S. military forces boarded a crude oil tanker in the Indian Ocean after pursuing it from the Caribbean, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said on Monday, accusing the vessel of breaching Washington's blockade on sanctioned vessels traveling to or from Venezuela.
"Overnight, U.S. military forces conducted a right-of-visit, maritime interdiction and boarding on the Aquila II without incident " Hegseth wrote in a post on X. "It ran, and we followed."
After capturing Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in a military raid last month in Caracas, the U.S. has escalated its blockade on vessels that are under sanctions and going to and from the South American country, a member of the OPEC oil producers group.
Suezmax tanker Aquila II departed from Venezuelan waters in early January as part of a flotilla of vessels. It was carrying about 700,000 barrels of Venezuelan heavy crude bound for China, according to schedules from state company PDVSA. Most tankers in the flotilla have returned to Venezuela or have been seized by the U.S.
Hegseth said the Aquila II was operating in defiance of the U.S. "quarantine of sanctioned vessels in the Caribbean."

Uhh…Japan has always been quite good with long range cruise missiles and anti ship missiles. Now they are rapidly expanding their stockpile and range even without Article 9.

The problem with modern Japanese military equipment has not been capability, but unit cost
Type-12 AShM is 3 million each
Harpoon is 1 million each
YJ-83 is less than Harpoon

F-2 (enlarged F-16) cost 100m per plane even in 2000's
That could probably buy 1.5 J-20's

Takaichi can talk all the nonsense she wants about the military. Unlikely that Japan can afford it. Doesn't mean China should ignore her threats as idle, just the counter is simple.

I'm unsure what China aims to achieve by overturning the death sentence for a Canadian drug smuggler recently. If this reversal stems from political considerations, I believe it's a misstep that turns China's rule of law into a child subject to manipulation. Unless, of course, the case truly lacked sufficient evidence.
Note that the guy was originally sentenced to 15 years only. He appealed his case and it was turned into death penalty (interpreted as a response to the Meng case, of course China will never say for sure). So it could already be said that it was subject to manipulation. In any case, not even the Canadian government is going as far as calling for his release (even back then), just protesting against the death penalty (standard procedure as Canada does not have the death penalty). Clearly there is very little belief he is innocent, he was already convicted of many drug related offenses in Canada. Also, it was a lot of drugs (100's of Kgs), so no one thinks it's just some misunderstanding.

Jordan "condemned" the action but they still will protect Netanyahu ass from any missile incoming.
Cucked Europeans "condemned" the action but they still give Bibi right wing government the weapons to "finish the job" in Gaza.
The Arab States.....well they don't give a damn and even if they give a damn they will do nothing.

Please inform me as to how on earth Japan will have remotely enough rare earths to produce all that, especially when China does almost all of the processing of that stuff. It’s sugar daddy that is telling them to take a jump literally is begging China for the rare earths supply so all this nonsense coming from this fool of a president will simply hasten the end of Japan as a nation if the cannot get with the times and learn some serious humility

Bloomberg "shock" story? will this be able to wedge europe vs china?
China’s first trade shock hit the United States after it joined the WTO in 2001, hollowing out parts of American manufacturing. Now a new wave of Chinese exports is reshaping global trade with Europe increasingly in the crosshairs. We travel to Bavaria in Germany to see firsthand how local auto manufacturers are facing headwinds from China, and get analysis from economists David Autor and Stephanie Flanders on whether the ‘second China shock’ will echo the past or unfold very differently.
