I think we are not at the point of using GJ-11/21 for A2A engagement yet. And given where they are deployed, they should be used in ground attack roles to start off. And they should be able to do that job pretty well. Doesn't require advanced AI to do.
Some IWB likely needs to be optimized for PGMs imo
I would say (or clarify) that A2A roles are more of a "secondary/bonus capability" for UCAVs of the likes of the GJ-11/21 (and the aforementioned hypothetical GJ-11-successor UCAV), since A2G roles are meant to be their primary mission set from the get-go. The mention of PL-15/16/17 capability in my previous post is meant to be describing/illustrating the sizes of the IWBs on the J-20/A/S, J-35/A, UADF-A/B and the J-36.
Of course, I certainly would rejoice a lot if there are newer/future UADFs for the PLAAF and PLANAF which can fit PL-17s inside their IWBs (similar to the J-36), which certainly would add so much lethality to the J-20/A/S, J-35/A and J-XDS when being MUMT-ed with these UADFs. Though, this would likely necessitate UADFs that are somewhat larger than the current UADF-A/B (perhaps about Rafale-sized if not F-35-sized?) in order to fit the longer IWB(s)...
