It only makes sense. The tech industry is the darling of US business and finance. They've been doing this with their products for over a decade now, and the only thing that matters is their stock prices and those stock prices are higher than ever. It only makes sense that this same thinking will spread to the rest of American society and the government is just the latest expression of this. And unless there's a lot of pushback against this kind of activity, it'll only continue its merry way.

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has announced that it will soon resume shipping its MI308 artificial intelligence (AI) chips to China. The news comes hours after fellow chipmaker Nvidia said that it will resume the deliveries of its H20 AI chips to China “soon”. AMD stated that the US Commerce Department intends to restart reviewing its license applications for sending these products to the world’s second-largest economy. While Nvidia says it has been “assured” by the government that licenses to sell its AI chips will be granted

What's the deal with Nvidia and AMD selling GPU? China near another breakthrough or Trump trying to create the right conditions for some rare earth?

Stifle Huawei's share in the consumer sector. Or at least that's what David Sacks says is the reasoning for loosening the restrictions:

Just a profit motivated decision as usual. Can't let Huawei siphon away profits from the NVIDIA and AMD money trees.

IMO it was always an own-goal to attempt to divide the world into countries that could and couldn't buy chips from the U.S. It's rather funny how King TACO's staff were the one who realised it was a bad idea whereas the Biden administration kept going on with the plan no matter how short-sighted it was...even though King TACO is only doing it for profit as opposed to sound decision-making.
