PD-35 is a larger engine with double the power output. I have heard claims they initially scaled the PD-14 engine core up but I suspect it was more complicated than that. You don't need to hand craft prototypes like that now that we have high fidelity computer simulations.

Why not just use Chinese everything? Well, because Russia has a strategic interest in supporting its own aero-engine industry, as well as national pride.
I thought that's the new plan? Russia has been taken out of the project(from CR929 TO C929) as a partner no? I think they are just a potential supplier now.

Well CJ-2000's progress at the minimum should be at the level of PD-35, so IMO the best way forward would just be accelerating the CJ-2000 program and hopefully get C929 off the ground at the beginning with Chinese engines.
they openly showcase APU for C929 during Zhuhai airshow..

CJ-2000 will be completed by then and C929 all core components are locally produced. even before all this drama, i have told this. C929 all core parts will be locally produce.

So C929's first prototype would also use CJ-2000 on its maiden flight? That's pretty neat IMO since most people were expecting RR engines to be used initially for testing etc. Hopefully this won't delay anything though
