Ben Norton's deep analysis of Trump's "reciprocal" tariffs. I know these are long vids, but I usually watch them at 1.5-1.75x speed. You get used to the speeds, eventually.
These policies do not make economic sense because they are not economic policies, they are political policies. They are strong arm tactics and will be used to see who the weak and strong countries are, and to pressurize the weak for loyalty and benefits to the empire. They do not need to make economic sense, so any economic analysis is a waste of time.

There's actually a good theory that Ben mentioned, and that is that Trump is trying to make up for the losses of lowering taxes for the rich by increasing the taxes for the working class through tariffs using the excuse of trade deficits, so it may very well be economic.

Commerce secretary Lutnik said if countries retaliate the US will increase the tariffs. This is madness and stupidity. I live in the US and hope Trump walks back the tariffs. If not this country is about to receive economic shock therapy. This is akin of committing economic suicide.
