Re: Computer Talk!!

There are benchmark /review websites out there. Tom's hardware comes to mind.

I know, that's not my point. Whereas before, you could judge a CPU spec by its clock speed, now you have to remember the model number and go search for a review.

Not since the days of short pipelines could you judge CPUs by their clock speed. That was back in the 486/Pentium 1 days.

Iranian "cyber army" hacked and defaced Twitter a while ago. Its up now. I wonder if Facebook is next.

I don't recall facebook taking a big role during the last Iranian election aftermath. The twitter hack was definitely a revenge attack.

Re: Computer Talk!!

Does anyone else miss the good old days where CPU quality could be measured by a number? How the hell do you choose a CPU nowadays?
about choosing CPU...
well, dual core is basically the standard nowadays, and quad core if you need the extra power. In terms of gaming, quad core is not really needed at the moment, I run most of the new games on high graphics no problem. However, there are those CPU-intense games (such as MS Flight Simulator or Armed Assault 2) that would definitely benefit a lot from a quad core.

Personally I wouldn't get anything less than 2.5GHz because not all programs are made to use multiple cores.

Man..this thread has been long dormant..

Question..Any of you guys use Google Chrome? How does it compare to the other browsers?

Currently I'm using the latest version of Firfox..but there seems to be some slowness when loading photo pages which is what I do. And IE...faster for me but when I'm at mp.net all the photos don't load. So is google chrome any better??

edit..I went back in this thread and see my question was answered. So in the last 6-7 months has google chrome improved? Does it still crash?

I'm using Chrome as my main browser at home now. Chrome is lighter and faster than Firefox, so it suits my browsing style. The only thing preventing me from using it at work is because Firebug is still the most superior developer tool. (And the chrome firebug plugin doesn't compare.)

I'm using Arch Linux. I'm mostly running chrome to be able to use a program my wife wrote and that uses chrome. It hasn't yet crashed. I also have firefox. The program also uses the window manager wmii so now I don't use xfce anymore.
