I don't believe the UK gave india "its independence" because of the peaceful protests of Ghandi the anglos are/were way to cruel to do the right thing from a peaceful protest. I heard a lot ww1 and 2 indian nationalist were fighting in the background against Anglo forces. Ghandi was the excuse to prevent UK a case of loss of face.
