Everything the US accuses China of doing, the US is already doing it. Right before Edward Snowden came out, there was all this glee in the US that because Xi Jinping's wife was seen carrying an iPhone that the US can spy on Xi. This was before Chinese smartphones were competition. The US also said they would consider a cyber sabotage attack as an act of war. Then the US used Stuxnet on Iran. Look at artificial intelligence today. All what the West fears about AI they're still going to develop it because China is going to do "it". That's the brainwashing they put out there to get their own people okay with something by claiming others like China are doing or going to do it. These are the very same people who think Chinese are inferior that they doubt China's semiconductor breakthrough yet China is able to do all these others things before them.

We can see from the thumbnail, that Kamala Harris was there too. So this India-ASEAN SCS thing is definitely coordinated and brokered by the US. While India is nothing like the US when it comes to lending defense assistance to SEA nations, it is becoming a contributor to the US's own SCS grand strategy against China. India had recently sold Brahmos missiles to the PH and given a warship to Vietnam. Again, nothing like the US and South Korea, but its a start. Now, I know that Indian weapons are vastly overhyped junk, but its their hype that can breed overconfidence, like in the PH. The PH had most recently made joint statements with India about their anti-China SCS stance. India ultimately wants to join the US to meddle in the SCS disputes. And this is somehow gaining momentum, because some SEA leaders wanna act tough on China.

Would this India-ASEAN thing go anywhere? I don't think so. But some leader in SEA may get stupid enough to think he can take on China, just because he has the backing of US, Japan, SK, and India. Malaysia is currently led by Anwar Ibrahim. He is making a stupid move, but I don't think he will go too far to antagonize China. But the opposition in Malaysia are Sinophobic Islamic fanatic idiots. If they get into power, by coup or by elections 4 years later, they could inherit this QUAD-ASEAN thing and be emboldened to provoke China.

Yes, this is unfortunately true. I only hope that this doesn't lead to any war. But the PH situation is getting more concerning as time goes by.
PH IS ALL BARK AND NO BITE. LET'S BE REAL NOW. It'll take decades of actual real investments, training, force structure orientation and real economic growth to ensure PH ascent into a credible military threat against any country in ASEAN, let alone against China. Singapore alone has a much more credible military strength than those jai Hind Pinoys

I'm pretty sure Reddit thrives on racism and coping. The posts I glimpsed there on the Mate60 news is the kind of ignorance and bigotry that constitutes an active cognitohazard that should be cordoned off and purged lest it lowers your intelligence.

More like a biohazard. All those cum-encrusted socks present a credible threat to basic human hygiene.

Firstly, a ban on Apple means less jobs and money in its China-based suppliers, etc.
Apple is moving out of China already on its own initiative, it is already cutting Chinese jobs, so it should loose Chinese market begining with the state sector, when apple fully moved itself out, it should loose whole Chinese market. Nobody Apple or Samsung can 吃饭砸锅 if you know the Chinese idiom.

Secondly, the security risk would appear to be not much greater than any (non-HW) Chinese smartphone brand.
You are talking about Qualcomm chip based Chinese smartphones in China. Those are running Chinese OSs which are totally transparent for examination. Apple's iOS is a blackbox which is the risk.

IMO, it is only partially about sucurity. It is a punishment for Apple moving out of China, a retaliation for US banning Huawei, ZTE and other Chinese companies. It is the same punishment of Boeing in the ongoing tech/trade/economy war.

In addition to the other points raised,
1. Zero sum game. If it hurts Apple more than the Chinese suppliers, it's worth considering.
2. If iphones are banned, they need to be replaced with Chinese phones. Those phones will experience increased demand to fill the gap and they will increase their parts orders to the Chinese suppliers that will see their orders reduced to Apple. In the end, same number of phones, same number of parts; the main difference is Apple gets cut out of Chinese money.
As long as Chinese tourists aren't accused of being spies or the Biden administration has forgotten that it just labeled them spies a week ago.

Chinese version of android uses the open source android core, not the complete version of android version outside China, also without google services installed, it prevent data being sent to some shabby basement servers in Langley, Virginia.
google services are the only thing that allows this? What about backdoors?

Not to mention all the backdoors the TMIC chips probably have....
