Yeah at some point in the near future I forsee NYT saying something to this effect: "though sad that the free people of Taiwan were brutally conquered by the authoritarian PRC, they did not truly want to be independent. Taiwan since ancient times has bent towards powerful conquerors such as the Dutch Empire, Ming and Qing China and Imperial Japan. Even the ROC was a foreign conqueror that subjugated native Taiwanese. Do they deserve American blood and treasure to secure independence after surrendering it so many times before?"
