Wang Guan interviewing Azerbaijan president. Usually means this president is going to meet Xi in China soon. He probably wanted Xi's opinion on what happens if Azerbaijan wins the next fight with Armenia. He will need to reassure Xi that BRI is not affected and Azerbaijan won't let NATO cause trouble for Chinese interests in the region.

, accusing Baku of “genocide” in the breakaway Armenian-populated region of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Baku and Yerevan have fought two wars over the mountainous enclave and the signature of a peace treaty remains a distant prospect.

Talks under the mediation of the European Union, United States, and separately Russia have brought about little progress.
“So long as a peace treaty has not been signed and such a treaty has not been ratified by the parliaments of the two countries, of course, a (new) war (with Azerbaijan) is very likely,” Pashinyan told AFP.

Tensions escalated earlier in July when Azerbaijan temporarily shut the Lachin corridor, the sole road linking Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia.

STEPANAKERT — In an appeal issued ahead of the July 25 meeting of the Russian, Armenian, and Azerbaijani foreign ministers in Moscow, Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) President Arayik Harutyunyan demanded an immediate end to the 225-day blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh by Azerbaijan and the prevention of the rapidly deepening humanitarian catastrophe.
“Azerbaijan is committing crimes against humanity in Artsakh, which are a direct consequence of Azerbaijan’s gross violations of the Tripartite Statement of November 9, 2020, and well-known international legal documents. After the war, the people of Artsakh believed in the guarantees enshrined in the Tripartite Statement, especially in the mission of the Russian peacekeeping troops, and returned to their homes to restore normal life,” the appeal reads.
The Artsakh President demands that the parties to the Tripartite Statement take practical steps to ensure the immediate opening of the Lachin corridor and guarantee the security of the people of Artsakh, at least within the framework of the commitments undertaken by the parties in the Tripartite Statement of November 9, 2020

her Vietnamese American colleague as "un-American" for supporting a petition seeking multilingual ballots.

Councilwoman Dorothy Dean criticized Councilwoman Van Tran, asserting that her advocacy for Spanish and Vietnamese ballots in Morrow, a suburb of Atlanta, was a betrayal of her role as an elected official and an American citizen.
“I would like you to know that I feel as a citizen of this city and as a fellow councilmember that you do not deserve to sit on that dais as an elected official,” Dean said at the council meeting, saying the petition “offended me highly.”

“You have failed in your oath of office. You have failed as a citizen of this country,” Dean said. “You disregarded and you dishonored the oaths that you took as an American citizen. I would like to say that is un-American and inexcusable. Shame on you, Van Tran.”

The petition aimed to accommodate a diverse population, with Census estimates showing approximately 40% Black, 30% Asian American, and 20% Latino residents in Morrow. Mayor John Lampl ended the meeting before Tran could respond.

I guess this is Fukuyama's latest stunt to keep himself relevant.

Fascism bleeding into the west from all directions.
This is hilarious. You can take the Japanese out of Japan but you can't take the Japan out of the Japanese.

I'm sure if the Mongols conquered them, they'd be singing the praises of the Khan long after the Ming overthrew the Yuan.

I know where you are coming from. China for a long time sucked at media department. The shift is very recent. Tiktok is the biggest breakthrough. Genshin and Honkai are two other breakthrough. I can't say if that qualify as a cultural superpower, but owning a top of the line international short video app is a big deal, as well as having 2 top tier mobile games.

Tiktok certainly deserves a mention due to how internationally renouned it is.

I dont think China is US and Japan level yet, but it is showing signs of overtaking. Like 2008 China economy and US economy same vibe.

And that means Chinese media certainly is above India to say the least. Both overall earning and international prestige.
Well thank you for that. I get not everyone agrees with me and yes I have phrased some things poorly in the past, but just because this forum is a supposed safe harbor from rampant Sinophobia on the net, doesn't mean members have to get defensive and hurl insults on every discussion regarding China's faults.

Not least on an issue that casuals and hardcore patriots have been on the same page on for a long time. (And that I didn't even want to discuss anyway, I was just responding to another comment about whether Chinese directors can learn from Soviet filmmakers)

Interestingly, the degree of defensiveness and extremity of the insults levied, only reveal the depth and extent of ego insecurity regarding the issues raised. It surprises me how so many, supposedly rational, intelligent, folks fail to recognize and appreciate this. Then again, rationality can be a very thin veneer!
