Fun to read as these projections are, they are almost always far off. I've read projections from 2007 that said China would pass Japan as the world's second largest economy in 2020, and the US in 2040-50 if at all. They passed Japan last year, and recent projections taking inflation and evaluation of the yuan in account project China passing the US in 2017-20.

Well, China got lucky this time, as Japan had a big recession.

as for the usual China US argument, i think the swap will happen not much later than 2020...not sure when China will surpass EU though, Germany is lookin pretty tough

These estimate are usually off. Usually they predict there will be no recession and no political instability.
