Guys, these exercises are important...but the details, pro and con are rarely released.

This article by the Aviationist, like many of his articles...pupports to source an article that he himself says is no longer there...not even the cache.

So it is not a credible report.

Also, posting that someone heard from someone that a sub surfaced during an exercise right next to a US carrier is equally not credible.

To be able, in the specific scripted situation of the exercise to score a hit is one thing...to physically hazard the sub and the carrier by such a surfacing is not a credible thing at all.

We have naysayers and critics saying that carriers are obsolete and can be easily defeated.

This is not so.

These exercises are scripted and simulated. Rarely are active and even passive defenses actively deployed in such exercises...and both sides are not permitted unrestricted warfare.

They are exercising very specific things which preclude the use of everything they have.

KEEP IT CREDIBLE...AVOID SENSATIONALISM

Arromanches Mission: The CBG in the Arabian Gulf

After his patrol in the area of interest that is the Gulf of Aden and the northern Indian Ocean, the battle group established Task Force 473 (TF) around the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle crossed the Strait of Hormuz Sunday, February 15, 2015 and is now sailing in the Arabian Gulf.

Dear FORBIN
The name ''Arabian gulf'' does not exist in any UN documents
So , Please use the name '' Persian Gulf'' Instead of ''Ar....n gulf''
Thank you

First Operational Deployment for a French Navy NH90 NFH Caïman Maritime Helicopter
OoYh0Lh.jpg

A French Navy (Marine Nationale) NH90 NFH Caïman is currently conducting its first operational deployment on board the Horizon class air-defence destroyer Chevalier Paul, Navy Recognition learned from the French Navy. The Caïman detachment (the machine, pilots and associated support crew) belong to Flottile 31F based in Hyeres naval air station.

A French Navy spokesperson explained to Navy Recognition that the Caïman multi-role helicopter is conducting anti-submarine and anti-surface protection missions for the Chevalier Paul (classified as Frigate by the French Navy) and Charles de Gaulle carrier strike group (CSG).

The Charles de Gaulle CSG started air operation over Iraq (as part of operation Chammal) on 23 February, as part of a long deployment called "mission Arromanches".

The French Navy ordered 27 NH90 NFH and received the first one in December 2012. The twelfth unit was delivered in October last year. Thirteen of the NH90s will be fitted with a rear access ramp. The French Navy ordered 14 anti-submarine warfare kits (an optional equipment) for its entire fleet of Caïmans.

Historically it has been the Persian Gulf. Starting in the 1930s, some Arab states began to push to have it named the Arabian Gulf.

The Gulf does border both Persia and Arabia...so it is easy to see how they would want to name it that...and I am sure in some of their countries they probably call it that.

Just the same, the absolutely consensus of history would be for it to be called the Persian Gulf.

Interestingly, historically (like back in the 1500s and 1600s), the term Arabian Gulf was used to apply to what has since come to be known as the Red Sea.

Unfortunately, the very same issues this side of the Rhine river. NH-90s (as well as Tigers) really struggle to achieve proper availability. One should think that with so many customers, there should be some pressure on the manufacturer and some more synergies between the users in dealing with the problems.
On the other hand, Airbus has voiced dissatisfaction in the past over the management of such a multinational project from the buyers' side.
There so many parties who all want their special wish incooperated in the design and individually keep changing them.
