Are you kiddin me Egypt ?? Have they any experience of operating such a ship wow big news

Imagine Egypt sold them onto the Russians lol
I am pretty sure that there is a firm agreement on the part of the Egyptians not to do so...and the Egyptians have a lot of other French equipment so I think it is pretty safe to say they will not.

Also, look on the Aircraft Carrier II thread, or the Persian Gulf Thread. I posted what the current Egyptian amphibious capabilities are on those threads...and needless to say, though they have some, it is nothing compared to this.

I will also add, that with 2 huge ships of this size for someone like Egypt who is dependent on foreign military aid/weapons/parts to just go behind France and trade them to Russia for more military gear or cash. Would hurt them extremely, they would get a huge backlash from most all Western Countries. And possible loss of access to aid/western military markets/ spare parts etc.

Hence that was a joke and not a serious consideration
Gotcha, Asif. Thanks for the clarification.

Another one I like is the "/sacasm" tag. That one also makes it clear when such comments are not to be taken seriously.

that the Mistral helicopter carriers, which had initially been built for Russia, will be sold to Egypt.

Following the high-profile meeting, Reuters quoted Hollande as saying:

Yesterday, I agreed the price and conditions of this sale with (Egyptian) President (Abdel Fattah al-) Sisi and so France will ensure the delivery of these ships without losing anything, while helping protect Egypt.

However, he did not want to disclose any more detail about how much the deal is worth.

Reuters reported that a French defense ministry source said the deal could be set at around 950 million Euros.

The news of this sale comes as a confirmation of France’s statement that it would not struggle with finding
