It is ! with a look enough unusual

Remains to see more détails mainly the missiles load, i hope a VLS with 32 cell's
But get the futur radar Sea Fire 500, AESA x 4 so normaly AEGIS like yet very good for AAW capability.
FTI.jpg

Meantime,
With only 16 cell's ! :( but in more a new Short Range SAM laucher look like RAM.
Confirmed 8 x MM-40 Bl 3, NH-90 so versatile good La Fayette they replace have nothing for ASW, sonar, TL, helo !!! a shame
Sure this combattant is more capable

121 m, about 4000 t full remains possible some changes

Exist an export variant different mainly for armanent and with presumably this RAM or other.
but French watchers say now
16 x Aster 15/30, 8 x MM-40 Bl 3, 1 x 76 mm, 2 x 20 mm, TL 324 mm, hangar for NH-90 or UAV and normaly AEGIS like. No LACM.

Normaly as FREMM have 2 sonars, hull and towed.

So versatile but missiles load inferior to FREMM ( Italians have also only 16 ) but better radars. Despite numbers of missiles can be considered FFG of 1st rank , La Fayette are not only considered for politic reasons !

Euronaval 2016: DCNS officially introduces BELH@RRA front-line digital frigate

On the occasion of Euronaval exhibition in Paris-Le Bourget, DCNS unveils the BELH@RRA, the new front-line digital frigate dedicated to the international market and which renews the heavily-armed 4,000-tonne segment. With the BELH@RRA frigate, DCNS intends to continue the success enjoyed by La Fayette-class frigates, a reference on the naval defence market with over twenty units sold to four navies around the world.

DNCS completes its product line by positioning a latest-generation vessel between the 6,000-tonne FREMM multi-mission frigate segment and that of the 2,500- to 3,000-tonne GOWIND corvettes. With the BELH@RRA frigate, DCNS responds to the expectations of navies looking for a compact frigate, capable of ensuring long-range missions, operating alone or embedded in a naval force, on the high seas or as part of coastal surveillance missions in a dense and hostile environment.

The new BELH@RRA frigate offers operational intelligence that is unequalled on the market, in addition to a modular design, robustness and simplified use, which are all the fruit of the technological evolutions of the last few years. Ten years after the first design studies for the FREMM multi-mission frigate, DCNS’ latest frigate also capitalises on the experience of the French Navy with this vessel across a large number of operational theatres.

Thanks to the architecture and versatility of DCNS’ Setis combat-management system, proven on the FREMM frigates and GOWIND corvettes, the BELH@RRA frigate will respond to the specific needs of client navies in all areas of warfare, whilst at the same time offering significant platform modularity to increase vessel payload or autonomy. The new frigate will offer cutting-edge performance for submarine warfare, an unprecedented aircraft detection capability and strengthened air-surface warfare capacities; a multi-mission foundation to which capacities responding to new threats such as asymmetric warfare or cyber-defence will also be added.

Resolutely oriented towards future operators in command of vessels beyond 2020, the BELH@RRA frigate benefits from digital technologies. These endow it greater performance for data processing and threat detection whilst at the same time allowing the crew to concentrate on tasks with the most added value.

The development of digital technologies guarantees the upgradeability of the vessel throughout its life-cycle. For a period of almost years, the equipment and systems will be incrementally modernised to adapt to evolutions in the operational context, future threats and the arrival of new technologies.

DCNS already offers a French-Navy version of the new BELH@RRA frigate in the frame of the FTI (intermediate-size frigate) programme conducted by the French Procurement Agency (DGA) on behalf of the French Navy. For the French Navy version, the BELH@RRA is designed to satisfy France’s needs as defined by the French Ministry of Defence: a front-line frigate for anti-submarine warfare of a displacement of 4,000 tonnes equipped with widened self-defence and commando-projection capacities. Last but not least, it integrates Thales Sea Fire four flat antenna radar and is equipped with Aster 30 missiles from MBDA.

More détails, for French variant, firstly a bad surprise more expensive as planned about 400 millions €, a FREMM want 500 - 600 finaly new reach this price with RDTE 760 millions a unit ofc.
Definitely this very good radar is one of the reason.

Presumably an export version with less modern radars or others can be less expensive but in this case a Gowind 3000 is decent...

4250 t full
122 m x 17.7 m
27 kn max
Range to cruise speed 5000 mn very good
Crew 125 whose 15 for helo
1 x 76mm, 2 x 20 mm
16 x Aster 15/30 in 2 x VLS Sylver A50 LACM " MdCN " fit only in A -70 but not necessary
8 x MM-40 Bl 3,
TL 324 mm
Hangar for NH-90
Sea Fire 500 radar range max 500 km very good Herakles on FREMM 200 km max a difference...
Hull, towed sonars and towed linear antenna

So very good sensors but SAM loads limited see recently attack against DDG Mason close Yemen...and FFG of 1st rank but 2nd class in very dangerous area to use in TG/TF.
But undoubtely clearly more capable then a La Fayette.

...
are you sure some previous expenditures have not been covered already? LOL I'm asking because

"French defense minister ... told reporters a budget of €3.8 billion ($4.2 billion) has been set to build five of the ships for the French Navy."

according to DefenceNews France Unveils New FTI Frigate Designed for the French Navy and Export

(I'm not going to go into any play of words like the meaning of 'to build', am just curious what's included in the above 'budget of €3.8 billion'
EDIT
my guess would be two bils sunk in development so far (hidden under items which in Excel spreadsheet are unrelated to BELH@RRA) but I might be wrong :)

here's what NavalToday had to say:
DCNS unveils design of French Navy’s new medium size frigate
In collaboration with the French defence procurement agency (DGA), DCNS has unveiled the French Navy’s new FTI (Fregate de Taille Intermediaire) medium-size frigate design at Euronaval in Paris, France.

According to DCNS, the 4,000-tonne front-line frigate will be equipped for anti-submarine warfare with widened self-defence and commando-projection capacities.

The FTI will integrate the Thales Sea Fire four flat antenna radar and feature ASTER® 30 missiles from MBDA. The FTI will also be equipped with a new model hull sonar with new transducer technology for improved detection capabilities.

The new frigates are positioned between the 6,000-tonne FREMM multi-mission frigate and the 2,500- to 3,000-tonne Gowind corvettes. The inverted bow design of the FTIs ensures greater stability at high speeds, DCNS further said.

FTIs are expected to replace the insufficiently armed La Fayette-class light frigates. According to Thales, France envisions a five-unit order with first delivery to the navy in 2023.

Hoping to build on the international market succes of the La Fayette, DCNS is also offering an export version of the new frigate. As the company explained, the export version is named BELH@RRA® in reference to Europe’s only giant wave: the Belharra. The first “a” transformed into an @ makes reference to the highly digital nature of the frigate.
