fragile egoes; India protests for missing flag in farmville game

Their clear message is "Do Not Ignore Us." Indian is fast becoming a major world player following the Chinese foot steps.

The fact that they are worried about people ignoring them tells me that they are very insecure.

Talking about Farmville, my wife is playing a Chinese equivalent of the same game. I think it's with QQ. Some of her friends are in China and of course because of the time difference, they would begin playing when we get to sleep. She would get up in the middle of the night to harvest so that her crop/eggs/baby animals would not be stolen by her friends :nono::nono::nono:

One day, I found her visibly upset about something. I asked what's bothering her, she said one of her friends stole all of her valuable crop in the middle of night and left her with nothing. And she vowed that she would stop being friend with this gal since she could tell that this girl is not a moral person...

A game where other players can steal you stuff when you're not online isn't a game I'd want to play. Sounds like just asking for a lot of aggravation.

A quick look at the related Wikipedia page gives me the impression that this game is intended to be a rip off.

I thought the game was for free.

You got to give them some credit. When an on-line game can get so many people so addicted, especially when there are gazillion on-line games around, they have to be doing something right. what amazes me is that they don't have any of those normally thought addictive adrenaline-pumping contents, just plain old farming stuff. I mean how exciting can planting vegetables and harvesting them be? Apparently pretty exciting :confused::confused:

I wonder if thats a reflection of what Chinese society has become during the last 3 decades?

Apparently users can use real money to buy virtual money to purchase virtual upgrades and other stuff in the game. Farmville also used to trick its users into paying advertisers for services they thought were free. Actually Facebook is full of this crap, I lost $13 thanks to a text msg service that kept sending me texts that were costing me $1 each just to receive.

Please do not generalised Chinese society based on net user behaviour. Stealing password on internet is a global affairs, it happens if your password is hacked by professionals or is too easy to cracked if birthday, telephone number etc are used as password.

Chinese society is very divest and you have to be in China, travelling alot to find the true picture.

ummm.. what? explain please...

When vesicles remarked that his wife who plays a chinese version of the game had her crops stolen by a friend playing from China. I was wondering whether it was symtomatic of the lowering of personal morals/integrity with the changing of CHinese society(Some old Chinese seem to think that)
I didnt mean to single out China/ or Chinese. as IMO 99.9% of the world is of a similar mindset. Even in Nz 40yrs ago you could leave your home/ car unlocked, it would be very unusual to have it stolen. NOway could you do that here now.

Switzerland and Japan which I have visited regularly still seem to have kept a high standard of personal respect for other peoples property., I have left change for $20-40 on the bar, gone away for a few minutes and it is still there when I come back. In many countries it would be long gone.

Edit> Many years ago (I cant recall the titleof the book or the Authors Full name but I think his surname was Greene) He was a American/British, and he travelled to China around 1961. THe book he wrote commented on the tragedys and the hardship of the Great leap Forward etc. But his memorable moment was to have lost property returned from hundreds of miles to where he had been when it was lost.

Is that likely to happen now?

PS: the Book is Called "The Wall has Two Sides" 1963:by Felix Green /cousin of American author Graham Greene

Well, I should clarify. The stealing thing is actually part of the game. Believe it or not, you get extra points for stealing others' stuff. So if you want to play the game, you should steal ;) Normally, people steal some and leave the most valuable to the owner, but some, like that "friend" of my wife's, would take the opportunity to take everything. Also part of the game include you helping your friends. When you happen to be visiting their farms and some of their crops hapens to be ready for harvest, you can help them out by harvesting for them. And you get about 10% of the profit.
