In a July 1967 file photo, Paul Revere, front, and the Raiders are seen in character. Paul Revere, born Paul Revere Dick, the organist and leader of the Raiders rock band, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014 at his home in Idaho, says Revere's manager Roger Hart. He was 76. (AP Photo, File)

Ah yes.. they were a top 40 band and very popular. I know I liked them. I grew up in Cincinnati the Top 40 stations did not play this song below until it had be released about a month. More than likely because of the drug and sexual connotations.

Feel the energy of this song..as performed on the "Ed Sullivan Show in 1967"...apparently dubbed..Mark Lindsey is the lead singer.

Popeye was our childhood favorite. Singing that one sentence, "Popeye the sailor man, tu tu" was our way of greeting each other. I remember the most intensely suspenseful part of watching the shows was waiting for Popeye to reach for the can of spinach and dump into his mouth.

Its OK xiabbie, we all love ya buddie, and to be real honest, you do seem to have a pretty good noggin on your shoulders.... as you listen to some of these past ditties you can absorb a little history, as you rub shoulders with the old heads on SDF, we hope to impart a little wisdom and good humor into your life, and pray that our God will Bless you with kindness and good manners, which it seems your Mom and Dad have made a fine start on... I'm glad you're here, maybe you can share some of that exuberance for life that many of us seem to have lost. bax

The zestful jingle with the fast tempo Klavier keys, "Popeye, the sailor man. Choo, choo!", when I hear at my age now, still brings a chuckle or a smile to me and I'm sure to others as well. It reminds me of my exuberant childhood.
