Fc-20 = J-10?

I would have to see that interview. AFAIK no has directly implied J-10 is FC-20 although I my self am betting it is.

ali.auf can you provide me the link?
It is on the previous page of this thread.

Logic is of no use. Countries can name/call their aircrafts what ever they want. Look at Russians; they have developed MiG-35 with what ever happened to MiG-34 & the MiG-33 never materialized.
No because Mikoyan always designates its aircraft with ODD numbers. You can observe this right from MiG-19, MiG-21, 23,25,27 and 29.

So there is no question of MiG-34. MiG-31 is an upgraded version of MiG-25 and is currently in service with Russian Air Force. MiG-33 is widely speculated to be a canceled project (before Soviet Union disintegrated).

No if you read the interview again J-10 is named as F-10 for PAF and Chief further said that PAF may also induct FC-20 in near future so that gives you the hint that FC-20 might be the upgraded version of J-10 or might even be a new plan altogether we just have to wait and see.
If there is a (stealthy) twin-engine aircraft based on J-10, then it may as well be J-XX, which would be like the future MCA based on the current LCA. However, it is improbable that PAF is already purchasing such an aircraft when it is still in the design stage.

So we can conclude that FC-20 is infact the J-10, although it maybe of a higher block or an export version. But it is the single-engine J-10.

Well ok u got a point there ... but it still doesnt matter. A country can name its product what ever it wants, wheather it is in series or not.

Some one up there pointed out that FC-20 can very well be J-11B (Chinese version of Su-27) but as I said I my self am betting on it being J-10. But you cannot come to conclusion untill official declaration & deal signing.

that person is obviously wrong. I honestly cannot figure out why any Pakistani would rather have J-11B than J-10? You will end up paying more money, having higher maintenance cost and end up with an inferior fighter outside of range/payload factor.

You know we can't assume FC-20 is J-10; it can be & it can not be, it can be J-12/J-13/J14. And we don’t know yet what designation upgraded J-10 is going to have apart from that we got two new plans in the development stage as we all know there are at least two different projects underway right now (can be three).

We don’t have hard facts that FC-20 is J-10 or J-11B or J-12/J-13/J-14.....??

What ever was discussed it was between very close friends I mean China and Pakistan its a higher level game you know, J-10 is FC-20 are mere speculations. But I am sure about it that something was offered to PAF chief other than J-10 which was on the development stage that’s why Chief mentioned it as FC-20.

But any how it was good news as far as PAF is concerned it nice to end the dependence on single country who never was a Friend.

Cheers

I've read a Kanwa interview with PAF top level people that mentionned FC-20 as J-10. And frankly, I can't think of anything else China can offer to Pakistan that's significantly better than JF-17. As for development stage, they are developing newer variants of J-10 (beside an export variant), so whatever PAF wants to buy may very well be in development.

True most probabaly it is upgraded version of J-10 but it wont be called J-10 i think perhaps J-12 ?? because if it will still be calledd J-10 than why PAF want it to be named as FC-20 rather than F-10A/B/C/D etc for upgraded versions you know.

I read through the interview of ACM. He did say F-10A & FC-20 separately. I dont know why one version would be called F-10 & another FC-20 but it cannot be rulled out, in fact much of the evidence point it out to be J-10 (its newer version). I am going back to Islamabad on 10th September & may visit Sargodah (If I can). I'll ask some credible ppl. But to come to think of my credible sources, they have never mentioned anyother fighter aircraft other than J-10.

AFM June/July 07 ACM Interview and I quote "Some people call it J-10 and we FC-20" so they are same but avionics will differ, it will be customized version based on PAF Air Staff Req., Multi-role, new radar, etc.

even Weapon will be mostly what PAF carries (the new Immiging WVR and BVR selected)

My guess French/Italian, South African, Turkish (which are basically Isreali copies) and perhaps British systems

Cheers

why would you think South African or Turkish ones are better than what China has? I remember reading about Denel contacting China to work on missiles and got scared away by the PLA requirements.

Let me put it this way, there is not a chance that PAF requirement can ever be higher than PLAAF requirement. Just look at who their possible opponents are?

I am suspecting they want better interoperability with their Western aircraft already in service or planned for introduction. That includes similar radios, IFF, etc.
